I'm pretty sure an ls swap is in my future and I have seen plenty for sale but the prices swing ALOT! I can find 5.3 and some 6.0 motors for very reasonable prices and decent mileage and i also find similar motors (same kind of miles) Almost double and triple the price???? But here lies my problem, the more I think of doing this swap, the more I like the idea of doing a 6.2. The 6.2s I have seen have all been MUCH higher (like up to 7x higher) in price then the 5.3s and 6.0s, Is that just cuz they haven't been around as long? To go on top of all this, I also would love to do a 6 speed, A take out 6.2/6 speed from a camaro are to the point were it doesn't seem cost effective anymore to even consider it over a 5.3 or 6.0. Am I missing anything? I watch craigslist, fleebay and other fourms and have even considered buying a wreck for the motor/trans but most insurance auctions require special permits or a dealers license and stuff that cost money to even get in to think about bidding. Am I looking in the rite places? Any guidance anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated! If it's something you don't want to post or if you could throw me a leed on something, PMs are fine too. Thanks in advance guys!

You'd be hard pressed to find a junkyard 6.2 those fetch a premium If you are looking for a junkyard motor 5.3s and 6.0s are your best bet. Ls1 and ls2 motors go for a lot and I couldn't persuade myself to buy one when I could get a 6.0 and cam it and still have money left over also the 6 speed that is behind ls3 motors are hard to make work into older applications since the shifter isn't mounted on the trans and is set very far back also it doesn't take a slip yoke

Car-part.com has some pretty good deals on it but, you might have to pay shipping. I've just been searching around the various forums, ebay, car-part and finally found a good deal.

71Maroesteban, The shifter location doesn't scare me much but I wasn't even thinking about the fact that it doesn't have a slip yoke, could be more of a headache then it's worth. Thanks for the heads up!
Renegade6, Car-part.com seems to have better prices on the 6.2s then what I've been finding elsewhere, but the 5.3s and 6.0s are a little more. All and all, It's a good place to look that I haven't before!
Thanks for the info guys, it's really appreciated. If anyone has anything else to add I'm all ears, LoL Thanks again guys

Keep in mind that all prices at salvage yard are negotiable. If you find an engine (whatever you're looking for) in the local area, go there with a wad of cash. Cash talks! Talk to whoever is in charge and negotiate. They may not budge much on price, but they may agree to throw in a bunch of extras that can easily add up, like starter, accessories, etc...Those items generally don't come with an engine, but are vital to a good swap.

Pretty sure that some Denali's and escalade's came with aluminum 6.2... I recall reading something about certain years or options. I'd look into one of those. May be cheaper because your not saying camaro,gto,corvette...etc

May be cheaper because your not saying camaro,gto,corvette...etc those have VVT and DoD which would cost more to remove than just purchasing a ls3. I have an 07 denali 6.2 lucky it only came with VVT which I plan on keeping but if it had DoD I'd be a pain to have to remove it

DoD can be deactivated with a tune or if you are going to do a cam swap you only need a few extra parts. If and when I buy another, I am either going with a crate motor or an l76. I have an ls3 block that I bought off of ls1tech.com and after I get it together, I will have 5-6k in it. Granted, it will be a 418 and I got to pick the parts, but there was a lot of time and penny pinching involved. My g8 has an l76 and I have been impressed. I had a y2k z28 and 'Vette with 5.7 ls1's and the g8 feels much more powerful. The l76 (aluminum 6.0 w/ ls3 heads and DOD) are some of the best bangs for the buck IMHO. If you dont mind iron, I see ly6 (6.0l iron ls3 heads vvt) go for cheaper than lq4 and 9's.

Another search engine to uses is searchtempest.com. It will search all craigslist sites within a specified range. You might be able to find something closer.

Just be patient and have money ready. I found a great deal on an L77 (same as L76 but in the new Caprices) for a great deal on LS1tech.
