I'm in the process of doing the same thing in my 68. Although I'm not putting the battery in the trunk.
I'm gonna put a busbar/ terminal block in. Come of the battery once to busbar, then off the busbar to the starter, alternator and GMPP fuse box. Each with it's own cable. Not sure how something like that would work for you. I can't see why it wouldn't. I am no expert by any means but don't see why it wouldn't work. Just make sure the cable from the battery to the front of the car is well oversized so you won't run into problems later.

I am working with a similar setup. Depending on how you are running your positive battery cable, I would recommend coming off of the main connection of the starter solenoid for your GMPP controller. I'm using a bulkhead pass through for my positive battery cable to pass through from inside the car to outside, and I'm planning on powering my controller from that stud.

Thanks for the advice guys,as of now ive got a 1 gauge positive straight from the trunk to the starter solenoid after research installing a seperate solenoid close to the battery seems like a safer bet.as of now i havent ran the alternator wire im still up in the air on how i want to route the cable and what size to use i have a 170 amp 1 wire powermaster and from what i read looks like im gonna need a 2 guage wire straight to the battery.i like the idea of using the junction blocks to help organize i also read that it was best to run the electronics from the aternator power which is what i thought i would run the wire to power the gmpp controller.just wondering how you guys went about wiring.thanks alot for the advice and suggestions.

I ran a 0 gauge cable from the rear mounted solenoid to the starter. It's only hot when the starter is engaged.
I ran a second 4 gauge cable, fused at the rear by the battery, to the GMPP fuse box along the passenger side of the car (where my fuse box is located in the engine compartment). I ran an 8 gauge wire from the GMPP fuse box to a combination distribution/fuse block which provides fused power to the main car harness and the fans, and also receives the juice from the alternator.
