I am looking for coated headers with the best ground clearance for my small block, no AC 67. 1 5/8's / 3 inch collectors... any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

If all out performance isn't your goal a set of shorties or mid-lengths would do the job. JBA is at the high end and there are many cheaper versions available. Look at Summit or Jegs.

There are a number of intermediate length headers that will allow you to run your 3" pipe all the way up to the bend into the engine compartment.

CHP did a test a few years ago (you may be able to find the article in the tech section on their website) in which a pair of intermediate (Hooker if memory serves) length headers produced a surprising amount of performance on a pretty well built 383. They surpassed a many, much fancier setups.

You might want to look at Patriot headers through Summit. I'm running a set of their 1-7/8" primary headers with 3" collectors for my 454 Chevelle. They fit very nicely, make nice power, have good coating, and give TONS more ground clearance than the full length Hookers I had previously. I no longer live in fear of speed bumps. There are other sizes available beyond what Summit lists in their catalogue. Just contact Patriot for special sizes and they'll help you to buy them through Summit.

I have a 67 rs/ss that is lowered 3" in the front and about 3" in the rear. We designed a full long tube header for 67-69 Camaros that is available in 1 5/8", 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" primary tubes. Unlike most other header companies, we designed these headers specifically for 67-69 camaros. They are available with slip fit merge collectors or weld on collectors and will work with straight or angle plug heads.

I drive my car about 5,000 miles per year and have never drug the headers, even on the fine pothole laden roads we have in sunny cleveland.:)

Call us at 800-878-3635 and we will be glad to help.

Thanks
Al

They start at $649 for 1 5/8" tubes with a formed collector. Call us at 800-878-3635. They are all 304 s/s construction, tig welded, 3/8" thick cnc laser cut flanges. We also make front steer rack with LS1 headers, LS1 with factory steering box, and LS1 with Wayne Due subframe. We deifinately make more 67-69 Camaro headers than any other company, and all of our headers have a lifetime warranty.

Thanks

Good info, Al. What are the 1 3/4" port dimensions? Last I called your company, the 1 5/8" would not have covered my exhaust ports.

Well, I had great luck with Thorley headers. The were the easiest set I have ever installed. They clear the steering box and don't hang below the subframe.

More pics can be found on my site. Summit sell them (and others) and at the time cost me $320 for the nickel plated ones. Had I known they would have fit so well, I would have gotten the coated one. They are the 376 models. :candle:

Those look sweet - if the patriots don't work out, I will be ordering those instead... (in my price range)
