Anyone in Orange County CA, that could check out a engine?

I'm stationed in Jacksonville NC (USMC), and saw talked to this guy who says he is in Orange County. The engine is a SBC 440. Says its all New, and seems to be what I'm looking for and the right price I'm willing to pay, but with the amount of scams these days you never now. I have his contact info, if there is by chance someone is willing to check it it out, and knows engines.

Also if there are any good places that can ship from that area would be helpful.
