I know with cages, harnesses front/rear issues are mostly negated.

What about the dreaded side impact on a Street/strip car?

I would think a side impact is worse with a street/strip car to the cage being there.

Anyone ever retrofit side airbags? Or i guess its simpler just to run a full seat(up high head protection?) on the steet?

Is running this on the street even legal?

The seat that you are showing will not be much help to someone in a side impact crash. The idea of a containment seat like what you have posted is to keep your head in place in a crash, not to prevent a car or truck from impacting your head.

It would not be smart to run a containment seat on the street because when you are harnessesd in you will not be able to see right or left to maneuver in traffic, unless you have a neck like a Giraffe.

Those seats are designed to be used with helmets, I don't know how effective they would be for limiting head movement without one.
Without extensive collision testing retro fitting airbags just has broken neck written all over it... I wouldn't try it.
