I swapped my original 10 bolt for a 12 bolt posi over the weekend and had issues removing the cross shaft from the 10 bolt. Turns out one axle was wearing into the cross shaft enough to make it mushroom slightly which caused it to hang up on the spider gear. I got it out without too much drama but this has raised a question.
Is cross shaft wear common on C-clip rearends when you do subject the car to cornering? I don't track or auto-x the car, just some spirited driving on back roads. Now this is the original 46 year old diff and for all I know could have been the original fluid (it was black). So, was this wear from 46 years of driving or did it happen since I put suspension parts on the car? It was worn more on one side but both sides have wear. Either way, I would like to prevent it with the new diff.
