So I need to swap out the wheels on my El Camino in order to drive it (the fronts rub on the fender wells) . I have roughly 1400 bucks in my Hot Rod savings fund . I want some Billet specialties which will pretty much eat my whole budget for the year . I can live with some Torq Thrust II's for roughly a grand which were my first choice until I realized everyone on earth was running them or I could just get some Vette wheels with spacers for around 500 bucks to roll on until I can afford something better .
Here's my ride .

UPDATE
Wound up going with the TTII's when I found a set for 770 shipped with a backspace that will work . The fronts are 17X8 with 4.81 inches of backspace and a 245/45r17 BFG KDW-2 . The rears are 17x9.5 with a 5.5 inch backspace and a 275/40r17 BFG KDW-2 . The rears are tight to the outside with about enough room to slide my fingers in between them and the fenders . If I were to custom order a set of wheels I would probably go 6 inches in the rear as that looks like it would center up in the wheel opening about perfect .

My vote is for the Vette wheels with spacers (You probably already knew that). I can absolutely guarantee that other expenses will come up during the year and you'll be happy that you save some money, not to mention dialing in your backspacing with spacers is easier.

Its what I am starting to lean towards simply due to the fact that then I will have some money to do a few other projects on the car this year like converting the diff to posi and replacing the leaky factory exhaust with some headers .

A lot of people run the tt2's for a reason, they look damn good and never go out of style.

The rims that you have look just as good to me as the inexpensive alternatives. If not going with the billlet specialties then I would try a narrower tire on the front and save those bucks to put toward the paint job.

Still deciding on wheels huh? Maybe this will help, one way or another.

The Corvette wheels don't have quite as much dish as I like on older cars, but for that price I'd be leaning towards them over the Torque Thrusts.

For those of you wondering what direction I finally went , fate and finances converged on me yesterday . I found a set of Torq Thrust II's on Ebay with the correct width's and backspacing for 770 bucks shipped . It seemed like a better alternative than the Corvette wheels that would be a place holder . I thought about it all day and even went back through my notes on ideas for this build when I came across a picture of a 66 Chevelle I had seen and fallen in Love with wearing the TT II's . I just wish everyone didn't have as good of taste in wheels as I do ;)
Maybe when I get closer to the finish line on this build I will have some custom hoops built but for now these will keep me happy and with the sale of the wheels and tires currently on the car I will still have a nice cushion/jump on the next portion of the project .
