"Taking a New Direction"

Hi, new here but have been lurking for a while. Former owner of several restored Mustangs but was considering a new mild Pro/Touring project. As I was looking through the builds, an unusual car caught my eye. A ’73 AMX called the Silver Bullet done by coloradoamx. I was amazed on how cool that car looked and had a great blend of modern combined with a bit of the old. Love that car even though I’ve always liked the earlier 2 seater AMX’s. So I thought, what if I build a 2 seater version in a similar style as the ’73 AMX? What would it look like. I found a ’70 AMX project car here on the west coast and have located someone to build it with knowledge of both Pro/Touring cars and AMC’s. Bear in mind, I do not want to go all out like the Jimi Day car with big modern wheels and tubbing the rear and destroying the car but I think the right combination of 17’s on the car retaining a vintage look along with the right stance and chassis components will do just fine. Those cars are short and on the stubby side so can’t go too big on the wheels.

So I meet these guys, show them the ’73 AMX Silver Bullet and complete the deal to build the ’70 AMX. A few days later, they send me a couple of concepts photoshopped using another AMX and was blown away. They said if I liked the other car so much, you could do a similar but different theme in a two tone utilizing the nice crease line in the car with the body in a metallic Pewter and the upper portion in a darker metallic Graphite "Shadow Mask" separated by a thin dark red pinstripe with red calipers. 401 with a 5 speed I think will do nicely.

So here’s the two visions they sent, one with 17 inch 5 spokes and one with 17 inch Minilites like the Bullet has. Which version do you guys like???

#2 the crager look/torque thrust II has been played out I think. Otherwise love it , the two tone separated by the red is a great idea

I mean this as constructive criticism, but if you think that mini-tubbing a car is "destroying it" then you are on the wrong website. As far as big modern wheels go, Jimi's car has 18" wheels, which obviously aren't much different from the 17's you are talking about. You will see a lot of guys building cars with 18's in order to clear large diameter brakes and also because of the larger selection of 200 Treadwear tire sizes available. Good luck with the project, the rendering looks great.
