View Full Version : Is there any interest in renting the Wheel fit tool?

Too many times iv'e seen guys end up with a wheel/tire that doesn't fit quite right and would have been fine with another 1/4"-1/2" of backspace or whatever. So I'm kicking around the idea of buying one of these wheel fit tools.......

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s239.photobucket.com/user/novaguy73/media/Parts%20and%20for%20sale/wheelfit2-250_zpsfd05b5eb.jpg.html)

The problem is they are really expensive and pretty much a single use tool. So if I did buy this, would anyone be interested in renting this out after I get done with it?

I would probably do something like a $375 dollar deposit through Paypal and then $40 dollar rental price plus shipping to you, you ship it back at your expense. When I receive it back in perfect shape, you would get the full deposit back. If it comes back mangled or doesn't come back within 2 weeks, i'm keeping your money.

I talked to the last guy doing this and he ended up having a renter loose it, so its not available anymore and led me to the conclusion that I would need full price on the deposit to avoid this type of problem.

I guess i'm testing the waters here. Is there any interest?

i would rent one of these tools if it was available. The only thing that makes me a little hesitant is the deposit. It seems really high (I understand why) to do this from an individual vs an established business.

The deposit seems reasonable, yeah it would be a $400 deposit but you would get it back. I can understand the individual and business thought tho, and I would say that if it was coming from a guy that was new to the forums and didnt have a car with a build thread, then I would be a bit hesitant, this isnt the case here so its not that big of a deal. Unfortunatly like he said if he didnt have the deposit so high then someone would just "borrow" the tool and never return it and Nick would be out the cost of the item.

This ^^^The tool is pretty much $400 bucks shipped. Any less of a deposit and I would be setting myself up.

I think it's a good idea if you keep it to people posting on the forum that have been on here for a while.. I have been wanting to buy one for use in the shop, but haven't pulled the trigger yet myself.

Agreed. I had a guy pm me with 1 post in 3 years. Im probably not going to send it to him unless a good standing member vouched for him. Maybe I should have a post # requirement or need a reputable member to vouch for them?

Why not base it on buying/selling feedback or something more meaningful. Some members may not post because all of their questions are answered in other places.

Thought about something like this, but decided a piece of plywood that screwed to the hub and tire/wheel rim shapes that screwed to it would be justa s effective at a fraction of the price

So someone other than me sent you a PM, great! If you are referring to me, I have been in the performance industry for more that 30 years and hold an upper management position at a leading aftermarket exhaust manufactures. Trust me if I could justify a more then one time use I would buy my own. If you need references please PM me I would be glad to give you a list a mile long.

Thanks

Awesome idea for local folks.

But......
$40 to rent the tool
$25-$50 to ship it
$25-$50 to ship it back

Looks like a better idea to buy it and re-sell it. I would make it a purchase rotation. Because If I were to buy one for $400 and re-sell it for $300, I would be a head of renting. The next guy could buy it and sell it for what he paid...could be a free tool for the next folks in line vs one guy making money off the idea.

More like $10 to ship one way. Its made of aluminum and weighs very little. $60 bucks to check your wheel spacing before spending $1000-7000 on wheels? A bargain if you ask me. Furthermore making money is hardly the idea. Providing a tool that no one wants to buy for one time use and maybe ending up with it paid for in the end, is kind of the goal.
