I have a 68 Camaro that im "Resto-Modding". Im installing complete RideTech suspension, front and rear. Im doing the 2" drop spindles on the front with RideTech "Strong Arms" control arms and Coil-Overs. In the Rear im running the RideTech 4 link/Air Bar with Coil-Overs and DSE mini-tubs. I plan on running either 17"-18 rims and around 335's on the rear, and 275's or so on the front.

So my question is, for those of you that are "basically" running this set-up in a 67-69 Camaro. What Manufacturers C5/C6 style conversions are you running and what information or feedback can you offer.

I already have a basic disc brake conversion, but I'd really like to upgrade to a 4 wheel disc C5/C6 system if possible. I imagine the only thing I can possibly retain from that system is maybe the brake lines at best.

For me, price IS always an issue ,so im not after an ultra high-end or overly expensive kits. Im just looking for a "totally complete", no nonsense, solid performing, dependable kit that works... without costing me more than it should.

I'm running the complete ridetech system and I use the CPP C4/C5 conversion (http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/250955458212?lpid=82) on the front and it works great! the sell them on eBay about 400 bucks.... bolts right on....I have used this for hundreds of autocross events and never had an issue....

Im pretty much interested in using a 4 wheel disc setup ... What about the rear brakes, what are you using there? Also, what are you using for front hubs on this kit? What master cylinder, proportioning valve and what about the vacuum booster?

I use a rear kit from The right stuff detailing (http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/afxrd05z) also drilled and slotted works great i I also use there booster/master/ prop combo (http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/g10030572) the entire system works together the need to keep cost down for repair and replacement was the idea behind the selected parts....for example when I needed new front rotors after 3 years of hard racing I just bought an entire new front kit and replaced every thing to be safe(400 bucks and I had new hoses, rotors, calipers, bolts, bearings and brackets)

Thanks for the replies and info Rod..very helpful.

What did you use for brake 'hard" lines?

can you post your tire/rim specs?

do you use the RideTech turturn and muscle bar as well?

Thanks.

Rob,

Have you taken the car to the road course? If so, did you have any issues running the C5 set up?

for hard lines I used the OEM set from Inline Tube (http://inlinetube.com/Preformed%20Lines/Camaro/69%20Camaro/Brake%20Lines/CCB6908.htm) ....rims are Coys c-55 (discontinued) 17x9.5 front and rear with 5.50 backspace I use a small wilwood spacer (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-300-10716?seid=srese1&gclid=CKCgur7x3r0CFSwV7AodCgMA0Q) on the front wheels to get maximum width...tires are Falken rt615k 275-40-17 all four corners, yes I have the tru-turn and Muscle bar

Rob,

not to many big tracks, I prefer autocross, but I have had Jane out for several track days at streets of willow, I dig the elevation changes and combos of banked, hairpin, blind corners, the brakes with street/autocross pads made a lot of howling noises after they heated up, so the next track day I used track spec (corvette race) pads and the car never had a problem, but I super heated the Trans and Diff fluids, so now there both on pumps and coolers....now after 15 min sessions my only concern is cool down of everything theres an oil cooler, Diff cooler, trans cooler and power steering cooler, usually one smooth cool down lap and everything's happy

heres the car at streets

You can also call Tobin at Kore3, he will tell you exactly what to get.

With the ridetech spindle any brake kit for the stock spindle will still work.

I ran Kore 3 C5 kit on a stock spindle then put it on Ridetech spindle.

I now run 14.25" 6 piston willwood front kit.

just watch the hub offsets when you order from whatever company, that will change your wheel offsets

After much research I decided to go with actual Corvette C5 front brakes, through Kore3. I'll decide on the rears later, the stock drums will do in the short term.

Thanks.

I finally decided to go with the Corvette rears as well. Got the C5 rear kit for 12 bolt from KORE3... I really wanted a rear disc setup with a good parking brake.

http://www.kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10277-01

I'm still working out a brake booster assembly for my C5 conversion. I don't really care for the "snap-top" master cyl. reservoir offered on the DSE brake booster assembly. And $400 bucks seems pretty deep for a booster assy.

Check my build thread. I put together, what seems to be the exact same thing as the DSE booster, for about $275 bucks.

Yup. Looks like you did pretty good on your Booster assy. build.

Since I decided to go with complete C5 Brakes, I went with the actual C5 (Corvette) master. I then added a Great Stuff 9" dual diaphragm booster and the angled DSE lowering brackets for the booster, for Camaro application. I also added a brake fluid sensor connector and a disc/disc Prop-valve. I spent a little bit more than I wanted to, but I did ok. I got what I wanted and paid less than the DSE booster assembly. Plus I don't have to deal that messy snap-top master cylinder cap. I dealt with those sloppy things for years as a tech and always hated them. :smoke:

Here's a pic of what I came up with;

P.S. Nice Poncho Nick.

yes. still fairly happy...I hate changing the rear pads what a pain in the ass.... As you have probably seen I have run the car at Gingerman international raceway, Michigan International, and Gateway motorsports park and they have been very good

When you say fairly happy, do you mean you wish you had a better setup? Cuz I'm thinking about going with that same setup, can't really beat it for the price. Now of course it's going to be a little bit until I get to your level of experience

Thanks. Just started looking at the whole c5 conversion. I'm really liking that kit you use

I like the whole setup, stops well, I use Baer pads on the front and the calipers are super easy to change pads, 2 bolts and done in about 4 minutes per side, but the rear is a pain the piston has to be rotated back into its sleeve when you change the pads, thats all, just not as easy as the front..I think its because the rear has the e-brake setup and that rotating piston keeps the pads really tight (close) to the rotor ..that also makes the brakes work awesome

Some good info in here on the brake booster and m/c, I was curious on the direction on where to take my 67.

does the front kit come with dust shields or did you buy separately elsewhere?

Hey Rod I hope everything is well. Question, did you ever use the stock drum brake hubs while using any of your disc brake setups before you settled on this front kit? what do you use now for hubs? Will you be making a trip to goodguys in Ft. Worth, Tx. this fall?

thanks everything is awesome!

I did run the stock drum hubs for almost a year and didn't have an issue....and i was running about 20 events that season usually 1 larger event a month and then some SCCA and american autoX practices during the month for tuning....just clean and repack your bearings every 4 events for safety...after you have done that a few times it becomes second nature i clean and repack both fronts in about 30 minutes from raise to drop...this also allows you to do a quick visual on balljoints, tie rods control arms and the cotter pins...

I use CPP aluminum hubs on the camaro and wilwood aluminum hubs on the new rambler project.....

i am still unsure about the Texas trip...its all a time table balance

Hey thanks for the info. I purchased the front brake kit from cpp and studs included in kit and bigger in diameter on the splined portion than the stock studs. No biggie I'll make them work or just purchase new ones when I make my wheel choice. oh and see you in Texas if you make it
