I dug an old 72 Toronado out of my barn the other day. I always knew the car was in there since it was my grandmothers car and I bought the house after she past away. I have never been fond of the big boat style cars and never really gave this one a second look. Well, the time came to tear down the old barn so I started moving all the years of junk to get ready. When I got the Oldsmobile outside I saw that it had the standard 455 rocket in it. This meant nothing to me until I talked to my father and he explained that it was no regular rocket motor. This engine as I understand it was offered for 1 year and only in this car at 400hp and 500tq from the factory. The most powerful production olds motor to date. This is an extremely sought after motor for the olds crowd.
I still don't care much for the car and it will probably get sold soon to an appreciative enthusiast but it's meet to see such a rare barn find sitting right under my nose.

Look at those bumpers holy crap I'd hate to see the price to replate them. They're huge and I love it

I'm not a big boat car fan either, but this is an exception. These old Toronados are unique and are appealing to me.

Photos of these behemoths doing burnouts are quite entertaining too.

Cool find!

Congrats on the find. As a heads up, there is really nothing extra special about a '72 Olds 455. Not to say a '72 455 is junk; they are decent, but suffered from the compression drop that all manufacturers had to deal with due to the loss of leaded gas (and the "net" power rating instead of "gross"). This one probably is rated around 250 hp... the "Rocket" was just a marketing name for all Olds V8's in that era. Olds did offer a W34 Toronado in '68-70 with 400 hp, but they are pretty rare. I've never heard of the Toronado getting a "special" 455 as an option in '72... even the '72 W30 cars are fairly tame relative to the earlier ones.

The right combo of stance and wheels and you will have something! You will have to find a classy larger diameter wheel.

Like I said I'm not an olds guy. Lol
My step father worked at the olds dealer and he claims he placed the order to have the car delivered new with the w34 option.
Looks like I need to do some looking for an engine code or a build sheet.
Maybe it's a COPO Toronado? LOL

Cool car. How much were you thinking of asking for it?

WOW! What a behemoth! I had forgotten how big those cars were.
The rays of sunlight in the first picture make me think of divine intervention. LOL
