Safe amount of time

What is a safe amount of time for a crate LS3 to sit around before getting installed and fired up?

If you store it for more than 4 months without oil then I would take the valve covers off and pour a little oil over the valve train.
Otherwise you can store it for a very long time, as long as it's not in a grass field or susceptible to a lot of moisture. Cover all the open ports too.

You'll want to pressure prime it before you start it, why not go ahead and buy the primer and hit it with pressure every few weeks and give it a spin. I like to use a light fogging oil down the intake to help keep cylinders above the pistons corrosion free.
