I have posted this at Team Camaro and it was suggested to post here as well. I did some searches here but didn't find what I was looking for. I am new to the Pro-Touring concept and am curious what to expect from a lightly modified car.
I am considering options for making a better weekend driver out of my 69. Not wanting to go full pro-tour here, keeping stock subframe and leaf style rear end. Street machine here, not a race or drag carhttps://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/02/icon1-1.png (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=273994#).
Really looking for handling expectations for a lightly modified car. Considering options as follows, can easily be swayed to different suppliers.
Detroit Speed (http://stat.dealtime.com/DealFrame/DealFrame.cmp?bm=519&BEFID=96477&acode=515&code=515&aon=&crawler_id=1912695&dealId=3q2-f-YvAAXe4upRrG1Jmg%3D%3D&searchID=&url=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-57618-1854-0%2F2%3Fkwid%3D1%26mtid%3D570%26crlp%3D1_240251%26 kw%3D%7Bquery%7D%26linkin_id%3D%7Blinkin_id%7D%26s ortbid%3D%7Bbidamount%7D%26fitem%3D331159063888%26 mt_id%3D570%26mpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.c om%252Fitm%252Flike%252F331159063888%26mid%3D44652 8%26sdc_id%3D%7Bsdc_id%7D&DealName=Detroit%20Speed%20Inc%20Offset%20Shackles %2067-81%20F-body%2068-74%20-body&MerchantID=446528&HasLink=yes&category=0&AR=-1&NG=1&GR=1&ND=1&PN=1&RR=-1&ST=&MN=msnFeed&FPT=SDCF&NDS=1&NMS=1&NDP=1&MRS=&PD=0&brnId=2455&lnkId=8070676&Issdt=140329050758&IsFtr=0&IsSmart=0&dlprc=284.97&SKU=331159063888) Kit front suspension - stock frame, tubular control arms, shocks, coil-over conversion, sway bar (http://viglink.pgpartner.com/mrdr.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fviglink.pgpartner.com%2F search.php%2Fform_keyword%3Dsway%2Bbar&mode=), quicker box etc.
Detroit Speed rear leaf kit
Gen IV disk brakes
T56 conversion
17 inch wheels/tires that fit in existing wheelwells.
Enginehttps://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/02/icon1-1.png (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=273994#) 427 BBC with aluminum heads and water pump (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=water+pump).
My expectations are that this or a similar package would be far superior to the stock stuff - the key question is how good. I daily drivehttps://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/02/icon1-1.png (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=273994#) a Gen IV and while the ride could be a little better, the handling/stopping feels 30 years newer than the old gal. Just not sure what to expect with light suspension mods and heavy BBC in the nose. Getting a more modern feel is what I am looking for, just don't want to drop $25K in the process. (the Gen IV will donate the T56 and brakes next year)
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
