I dont always keep up to date with this kind of thing on the forums, however is this something that is well known or has already reached its 7,500 registration? Is California offering classic period correct stampings for their plates?

Worth noting:

Q13: Are the Legacy Plates going to look exactly like the license plates issued in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's?
A: No. Current law requires license plates to be reflectorized and modern manufacturing processes may not allow for an exact replication of the original plates. The images shown on the website and REG 17L are for illustrative purposes only. The final design of the plate will differ; however, as many characteristics of the original plates as possible will be applied.

Can't really find any information on the status of the program.

Actually looked at the web site today from my PC and it shows you right on the home page what the status is (couldn't see it from my phone):

Cool, here in Kansas you just find an original and use that. 1969 is black with white outline and letters. Five bucks at an antique mall down the road.

Fantastic news! Just read in today's paper that the yellow-on-black plates have exceeded 7500 pre-orders and that they will be ramping up for production! Unfortunately, the story also said that it might take up to a year to get to that point, but at least it is going to happen! How cool is that?

All I can think of reading all this is the mark up cars get in the northeast when anyone can say "Original California black plates" are included with a car.

I am putting in for a black/yellow, but I personally think the Old Pennsylvania DARE plates are the coolest.
