Well since I have a couple of builds going on at the same time I decided to separate them before I started posting more pics. Here we go people. I had 57 Bel Air chassis with c4 corvette air ride suspension from a previous build that didn't come to fruition. I wasn't sure what to do with the frame until I came across this rat rod near the arizona/california border.

I don't think I have ever seen hairpins on the rear end like that, I bet it would ride rough :(

Brought the ford back to the shop and set it on the frame with a set of Savini Wheels I had made. Fronts 285/35R22's Rears 405/25R24's yup 405s!!!! and dropped the 800HP 588 BBC in.

It didn't seem crazy to think I could make the Bel Air chassis work with a few simple modifications so off to the fabricators it went. Not just any Fabricators but the builder and caretaker and mechanic for "THE BIG RED CAMARO" Dave Ward...Precision Welding..Rialto CA. Quickly Dave and Rick got to work. Dave knocked out the roll cage in just a couple of days, I was bummed I didn't get more pics of it before we put the body back on.

Rick started to do some body work, he built the new firewall I designed and suicide doors when he found about a half inch of bondo on doors. rRealized we needed to send the cab to the blasters.

ONDSKAN
03-25-2014, 06:29 PM
We got the cab back from the blasters and you could see that the previous owner had only spot welded the chop job and then just added bondo over it..... boy was i glad we decided to blast it. I had Rick make the side molding around the front of the firewall into a scallop type tooth.....i love it looks amazing....He also fixed and finished the chop job the right way....as well as notching and extending the body along the frame..love the doors and rockers he did!!!..Dave made the tunnel....oh yah the body is welded to the frame...no was turning back after that...Haha

I'm a newbie at this stuff.....trying to get the whole story out from the beginning since it has been a 3 year build I am a bit behind getting it out there ...Im so proud of what we have done with this truck...and I"m pretty sure it will be a truck that nobody will forget.....More to come...Here is a Teaser Pic

ONDSKAN
03-25-2014, 06:51 PM
I know it looks cramped but I am 6 foot and I"m all legs so we measured the length to fit me perfect....when I post the custom seats we made it will make a bit more sense
Where do the legs go? haha. Looks awesome regardless

I wanted floating bucket seats. Dave and I decided that the best way was to have them mounted was directly into the roll cage.

ONDSKAN
03-25-2014, 10:04 PM
When trying to figure out how to build the seats I explained to Dave that I wanted to do a chopper style pan...Dave was a little stumped but when I found these old style tractor seats...Dave made em fit pretty damn well....you can see how the seats float so happy with Dave pulling this design of for me...nephews loved a sneak peek.... I had not shared any of it with my family or friends until this day... I know that the seats may look uncomfortable but I have to tell you they are actually very comfortable...can't wait to see and sit in them when they have been covered by Duane Ballard from DBcustomleather.com His work is insane!!!! A real Artists check him out.

above you can also see the cut outs for the custom LED tail lights

ONDSKAN
04-04-2014, 11:23 PM
Dave built some sick gauge pods that he milled out of aluminum... glowshift blackout gauges is what we went with

ONDSKAN
04-04-2014, 11:30 PM
I built a mock up of what I wanted the radiator shroud to look like...came back 4 days later and Dave had it built and started on molding the frame rails into the shroud.

ONDSKAN
04-04-2014, 11:36 PM
I was happy with how the frame rails were looking so I designed and had Dave hook out the rails and mold some piaa driving lights in...looks amazing:yum:

04-04-2014, 11:40 PM
That was also the day Duane Ballard came to see the truck and decided that he would do the interior... SO sick this guy is with leather check him out dbcustomleather.com this will be his first hot rod...he only does motorcycles usually ...so honored to have him pick this build has his first vehicle. thanks Duane!!!

next we moved onto the headlights.. I wanted something old school appropriate looking but be able to put modern HID or projector lights in...Dave made some amazing cans.

ONDSKAN
04-04-2014, 11:51 PM
next the headers were done by one of Dave's good friends who's name I completely forgot...and Kinsler sent us out a BBC cross ram EFI manifold for mock up while we waited for the real one to be built.

ONDSKAN
04-04-2014, 11:59 PM
While discussing the HP of this truck I wanted to develop a BBC 2 1/2" cogged serpentine belt system or kit.....because throwing belts is lame...so go big or go home I figured and Dave delivered an stunning kit...with everything...Vintage air AC etc.. I am planning on producing this kit for sale if anyone is interested...look how nice and narrow the fitment is!!! in this picture there happens to only be a 2" belt on but it will fit up to a 3"

ONDSKAN
04-05-2014, 12:07 AM
Kinsler finally delivered on the cross ram EFI...great work by the guys at Kinsler.... I love the velocity stack look but since I am never going to make a hood for this beast I wanted to to some type of kickass knock you down scary looking air filters.... I have always loved the HKS filters and I had Dave custom fit and pair eight of them!!!! one of my favorite design aspects of this truck...I have better pictures just have to find them.

Funny how two things apart make no sense and look horrible (no offense) but once paired together knock your socks off. First picture of the body on the frame my instant reaction was you need to lose the wheels. Fast forward to the bed, way too much tin from the side, no way to make that look right. Then you gave us the shot with it all together and I have to say you have vision, I sure didn't see it coming. It's going to be a one of a kind, in your face ride! Looking forward to the finished product.

I want a 2" cog belt on the front of my motor!
it too will have to be a one off system, I have an '93 Vet LT1 with LS1 coils, HP dominator ECM, and a positive displacement supper charger (that's the plan) I just cant seem to find the A/C pulley and belts that are long enough. but maybe with my move to TX I will be able to find what I'm looking for.

Well Gentlemen it has been a year since I last posted on ONDSKAN the Super Rat Rod and I have only two things to write about.

First: I hired a certain someone to wire and tune the 35 ford. After a enormous amount of time had gone by with them not doing their job and myself being distracted by my wonderful new baby boy...time got the better of this project. When I finally decided to go after the guys to find out what was going on I was informed that they had business "troubles" and that they had spent ALL OF MY deposit I gave them as well as other customers with no parts or labor done on my vehicle. NOT GOOD. So trying to keep my cool, I simply asked them to open their books to me to see if I could make sense of it. They did and in that moment my greedy ego saw an opportunity of taking advantage of their weaken business state. In this I told them I would PAY for the rest of my project plus one more if they gave me 50% of their crippled company (that had potential). They agreed. So over the the last crazy amount of time I got the company out of the red and doing ok. BUT, my project had ot take a "back burner" as a parter, to get the company going again. Well guess what......Its now time for ONDSKAN to begin its final journey through the wiring harness valley of life to become the beast it deserves to be!!!!!!!!! More to come...I promise!!!

Second: We are going to add a Fastrack elite series IFS with airide from the Roadster Shop can't wait!!!! Added a picture of my boy as you can see he's heading down the same path even though he only lasted 5hrs at the GNRS show this year. LOVE THAT KID.......LOVE CARS!!!!!!!

Its good to hear your back at it and with the addition of the little guy and part owner of the business. You're going to be a busy bee ;)
The 35 looks incredible on jack stands, its going to look even better on all fours.

That picture is worth a million bucks, 5 hours, holy moly. Mine cant last 2.5 for a little trip to the beach, hahaha.

Cant wait for the next update

Sweet blend of design and fabrication, I am sure you have a solid vision of the final product, that will insure project success. keep the munchkin fed and happy in the shop as he may come in handy during final assembly when access gets tight.

Cog belt drive looks like something Ron Bibb did.

I had one on my LS motor for a while. The blower produced too much torque.

Nice looking ride. Where's the project now? *What stage?*
