+2 on Plasti dip spray. It is surprisingly durable and looks great.

Let's not start a fight but there are many ways to coat stainless....i guess I chose the wrong word when I said anodize

We usually powdercoat ours too. I personally haven't installed trim after powdercoating- I would also be afraid of it cracking, but the guys have done it several times.
You could also wrap it in vinyl I suppose..

That sounds like the shops minimum charge. We get a lot of parts coated at work. Most of the time we need a fast turn around and pay the lot charge, but you might be able to Sweet talk the owner into running your parts with a production lot. We do this on occasion with black or white parts.

Has anyone ever done a black chrome finish?

what about manganese phosphate; that what they use to on gun barrels, its super durable and once you rub oil into it, it will have a nice deep matte black finish

Plenty of white lithium grease on both parts and snap the trim back on. Wipe the grease off. Or at least it worked for me without damaging the paint or powder coat.

If you wanted to try plasti dip or dupli-color engine enamel, spray a coat of adhesion promoter first. Adhesion can be an issue with stainless. Even powdercoat can chip easy applied on a tough to bond to surface.

SEM trim paint worked great for me.

If it gets scratched you just tape it off and respray. SEM trim paint is easy to touch up. I used SEM trim eurojet satin black

Is that the same as Melonite?

I repaired the trim on a couple cars with the SEM trim paint, not sure on the material though.

I powdercoated mine silver, no issues reinstalling it. On the wide 2-piece trims, you simply have to open up the slot a bit when assembling - due to the coating thickness. But, pretty simple to assemble.
