Looking to upgrade my steering gear box. Heard lee performance makes a good one but seeing what else may be better or other options? I'll be looking to get one for my 84 Monte Carlo ss and my brothers 1980 z28

Lee is Top imo
ATS(Speed Tech) is another ..rebuilt by LEE to ATS specs
and the DSE(Detroit Speed Engineering) box

Lee is top Tier along with a few others, most of the Nascar teams in this area run either a CJR or a Sweet equipment. Lee is the most common brand here on the forum.

I would look at a company that actually does the work. The work being blueprinting the box and dyno testing the pumps and boxes.

if you want to do a different approach..
Saginaw 525 16:1 manual box w/ UniSteers' Electra-Steer kit
but a 12:7 LEE box is best price for your performance

I highly suggest a Lee Performance 670 series steering box.

I cannot express enough how well this changes the feel of the car, it feels like the car lost 500 lbs, it is faster responding, and is truly amazing if you saw hard side to side.
An imaginary emergency lane change is very predictable, and a blast, it is easily one of the best updates I have made to the car.
You will be looking for better seats to keep you from sliding around.
They offer several options, such as AN fittings, and operating pressure depending on the style of PS pump,
mine is a drop-in stock replacement, installation was around 30 mins, plus the time to pull off the stock steering arm.
