To the general forum,
I want to publicly apologize to the board for the tread that got a bit out of control yesterday. While many enjoyed this, I am sure many did not. I also want to apologize to Yody, in public, for jumping on him. I assume full responsibility for that thread going south. Yody PMed me later, wanting to be sure "We are cool", kind of apologizing, and kind of backing off in Yody's special way. The fact that he cares that "Were Cool" must mean he has a tiny bit of respect, So I want to respond in public. I really would prefer for Yody to not even respond.
Thanks
Yody,
Were Cool! The truth be known, I was actually having fun because I knew you would bite. I guess sometimes I like a good fight!, LOL! For the record for the entire PT world to know.
I actually am very impressed with the amount of knowledge you have, and your enthusiasm for the "sport". Your car is very cool, and I want it! For a guy your age, to be able to build and fund such a project, and keep moving the project forward, to the level you are building it, it is impressive, and I commend you for that.
You probably do not realize this, but I work with two 18 year old kids right now, teaching them both to be car builders. Everything that comes from Prodigy Customs ( the prodigy's are these kids, hence the name) is built by one old man and a couple kids. These kids do a tremendous amount of the work, all with this old man leaning over their shoulder watching everything breath they take. So I want you to know I have real a soft spot for young people that want to learn this hobby.
You have to understand, that when a guy reaches my age, (on the wrong side of the hill of life) I'll group others with me, there is a certain level of respect we would like. This respect is not ass kissing or being a yes man, but simple respect that says., "Damn, maybe I should just listen here". It's ok to walk off afterwards and think to yourself quietly that old ******* is losing his mind, as long as you know in your heart he is probably correct about at least most of the subject matter. And as you grow older you will run into more and more situations and say, damn, that guy warned me about this, and he was right again!
While I get very little trouble from Andrew (I think he is affraid of me, LOL) I sometimes run into situations like this with my own Michael. Over the past few years he has turned into a pretty good car builder, particularly on the fabrication side of things. He's a real hard worker, and learns everyday, and here it comes, BUT, every once in a while, he decides he knows more then me, and will argue, even when he is positively wrong! It is a personal peeve of mine when youngsters continue an argument when they are simply dead wrong, or have nothing but hear say to base there opinion on, or worse, are just protecting dumb pride. It is a personal thing with me to protect my knowledge in these situations. And while I say it is a personal thing, I think most old farts feel the same way.
Guy's like me, and again I will group others like Steve O for example with me, can be the nicest guys you'll meet. I personally am willing to share just about anything I know because I like helping people, especially young people. From personal experience I know Steve is willing to share and help, and refuses to even accept credit for it.
But as witnessed, I can turn into a real ******* when I am certain, from fact and experience I am correct. I guess it all goes back to that respect thing again.
What got me going on the post yesterday was you did not even have a clue who you were talking to with Steve, and I hold Steve partly responsible for being to humble. Steve doesn't brag much, but The guy has 20 + years of experience working with, building with, and hanging with some pretty big names, and listening all the while. And that is difficult knowledge base for you to equal at only half his age. I tried once to nicely address the topic without directly confronting anyone, then I got stupid.
Back to me and that respect thing. I feel like when I am sharing at no charge things that are valuable enough that people pay me for it, I deserve to be listened to. This does not mean I am the end all, on all subjects, by any means. Quizzing back and forth, asking for clarification, even stating other things one has heard, are all good dialog, and actually helps subject matter. It may very well answer others questions, rumors, thoughts, for those who are to shy to post. This type of dialog makes for a healthy, informative forum topic, that probably reaches to others, without us even realizing it.
Please know, there a 100s upon 100s of post, by you Yody, on subjects similar to this, where I say nothing! That means I agree 100%, or feel you are close enough to correct for the subject to not need any additional comments or help. I am certain I have even learned something from you at some point reading a post somewhere. As I said above, you have accumulated a great knowledge of many things. Personally, I would really be happy if you continued to add to that knowledge base, and continued to try to help others that have not yet learned what you know. But damn it, you need to listen once in a while too.
So for the record, Were Cool! but I still bet Larry seats us on opposite sides of the room at the PT dinner, LOL!
And I have to say one thing, for about 6 hours yesterday, we sure woke the board up!
