whats the best fluid to put in a t-56? I'm unable to rebuild or buy a new one for now and I need it to last as long as possible.

I just researched this on www.ls1tech.com and found most guys run the Dextron III ATF since it is what GM recommends. Alot of guys say that synthetic ruins the syncros. I'd do some searches over there.

I've got 4 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF (exceeds Dextron III requirements) sitting in my garage waiting to go into my T56, once I flush it. I haven't heard of the synthetic ruining the synchros before? Hmm. I went with the Mobil 1 after talking to a few people, including one who specializes in T56 stuff. For $6.99 a qt, it better be good!

Also, as an option from GM, you could get your 4th gen with all Mobil 1 fluids.

I also use Mobil 1 ATF in all T56's. I have used Redline in the past with excellent results, but it is spendy.

GM synchormesh works well too. I use the Redline MTL (TKO, not a T56).

We also use GM Synchromesh fluid on all ATF manual transmissions like the T5 and T56. It is readily available at most GM dealerships for convenience. The Synchromesh fluid part number is: 12345349
