My buddy Josh and I are building this pickup for his daily driver, custom built how he wants it.
He's always liked this truck since he was a kid and finally has one of his own.
We're building more of a pre-runner than a rock crawler.

In short we're fabricating a custom suspension with ALCAN all spring lift, reinforced with custom trusses and trailing arms.
Powerplant - replacing the AMC 360 with an SBC stroked 383
Trans - upgraded the TH400 with red eagle pro stock kevlar and B&M convertor.
Borg Warner 1339 transfer with an all gear mile marker with 16% OD
Disk brake conversion
Interior will be upgraded
ect.

Here's what we started with:

Cool project. You certainly don't see many of those around. I didn't even know they were made, but then again, I am not a Jeep aficionado...LOL

Are you going to do the round headlight and grill swap? I think the core support has provisions for the round headlight and the earlier grill. I think it is a cool look.

Sweet build! My old man had one in green that I loved as a kid. Sadly, like most j10s she was a victim of rust. Good luck!

Ender, that's cool and yes sad. Most of these things do have major rust issues.
We lucked out on this one and it is almost rust free!

Front axle: DANA 44 open knuckel passenger side drop.
Rebuilding it with custom trusses, bearings & seals. Gears are good.

Love those trucks, that one seems to be in exceptional shape. I did an 85 about 10 years ago, really loved it until someone offered me way too much money for it. Thought it was cool that jeep kept the grill/core support the same from the 60's all the way to end, so the old grill bolts right in with just removing a few tabs.

That is the grill I was thinking about. Ron, you need to list all of the cool cars you have built/owned because you have had some cool rides. If I had fab skills, I would build a crew cab and do a Cummins swap with a mild lift. That would be a cool truck.

I know this is not pro-touring but we need trucks for parts runs and to haul our cars to events. Please start a build tread or at least show some build pictures. Keith

Hey guys, I didn't put these pictures of my truck up on here to take away from Dalamar's biuld up,,just to show him one of my trucks I was slowly biulding. I don't know if the site would allow me to run a biuld thread on this truck,,for now it's stalled out with me working on my 73 roadrunner pro touring which I have a thread going on here that i need to update soon. Just working on the car to much to post anything. Might tie in some pictures of the truck with my road runner as they are sitting side by side in the garage.

I like how you slanted the roof, that looks bad.

What generation cummins are you putting in there?

Dalamar, This streached dually is my first truck,,it's a 65 model,,I have a 78 and a 72. I really need to get this truck done,,as when i put these pictures up I noticed the date on them,,it's been sitting since 2011 with very little being done to it besides alot of thought and dreaming..I have been tinkering with the tilt front end for it. As far as the motor,,at first it was planned on a 445 olds because I had it already and was rebiuldt,,then got into the idea of the cummins,,but lost out on 2,,so it was back to the olds motor..Then late last year,,I got ahold of a 440,,and was going to biuld that and woth a 671 blower, the engine block is in the machine shop got bored out,,but I have it on hold as now with looking at the truck I decided it DOES need the cummins,,looking at the secound gen,,right now as that is what is in the dodge that is pulling me,,by the way,,even thou it doesn't look like it in the picture,,both trucks are the same lenght. and Mine sits just 3 or 4 inches higher than the dodge. It will definately be cool when you're done with it.

You are a busy guy Dal! This will no doubt be a sick build as well. I need friends like you around here lol, I'm the only guy in my group of friends here that likes to fabricate, everybody else just bolts on parts. Nothing wrong with bolting on parts but what's the fun in that right? lol

Dalamar
03-21-2014, 11:58 AM
I hear that!
Aside from my buddy Josh, none of my friends fabricate or even know what they're looking at... we both love to build and help each other out.
Too bad YOU don't live around here :)
Totally agree, bolt on only goes so far.

The axle housings are rebuilt, bearings, seals ect.
We stayed with the origional gear set.

Here's how we did the custom trusses, the removable sections are for the spring u-bolts
the bottom is a beefy skid plate/truss reinforment :)

Hi Jeff,
more of a pre-runner ?
when I see the reinforcement for the front end, I think this truck will climb rocks too !
Nice fab. skills & good idea with the removable parts
I like where you are going with the truck.
I wish I was more a fab. guy than a bolt-on guy...

Mind if I ask what is the car on the other side ?
Gil

Thanks Gil, this truck is kind of a hybrid of rock crawling and pre running. We're trying to stay more to the pre run side.
The braces do just look cool, and they work pretty good when you hit an embankment at 100mph. :)
we've got a lot more fab to do on this thing. thanks for the comments.

cool build
don't forget to put a support on the knuckles, from around the king pin down and on to the axle.
