Good heads, they are a little big, but can work on bigger big blocks. For the price they are decent, A little more money gets you a better head though. Tell us what combo they are for.

What size motor are you thinking of using them on? Those would be really good on anything 454 or larger that really needs to breath.

Well the plan is a stroked 454. Not sure how many cubes yet but definatly under 540. Most likely go with the scat or lunati rotating asbly kits with 9.5 - 10.5:1 and a solid.
What do ya think?
Thanks for the ops, Yody, Allen
if its a stroked 454 it would most likely be a 496 which is with a 4.25" stroke crank, a 540 would use the same crank but a 502 block with a 4.500 bore. Those would work pretty good on a 496. I would personallly go with some canfield 310's or some Brodix heads.

I really want to breach the 500 cube barrier, ya know for bragging sake, but being I'm on a budget I need to spend the money in the right places. I figure those heads are a pretty good deal considering I've seen them in Jegs, and Summit for close to a grand a piece. My hp goal is 500 rwhp, which I think should be easy with this combo. Of course I would rather look at AFR's or Brodies, but I don't think I would be using them to their fullest potential at this time. When the time comes to upgrade, I could save my $$ and upgrade.
Well if you look at the prodigy post in open discussion, on about the third page I list a 496 combo that was pretty mild that put out 670 HP and 600tq on a conservative dyno. If you head over to team chevelle and look up a guy named wolfplace he is the one who built the engine, he is also a dealer for Brodix and AFR, and has pretty good discounts. I've been dealing with him for awhile, good person to talk to, here is is website;

You can also get some canfield heads for Like $1,000 unassembeled, at competition products.

I did read that thread, very informative and entertaining at the same time....Glad to hear you and Frank are on good terms again.I'll check out the other heads. The way I see those heads out of the box are way better then any stock boat anchors even with an aggresive port job, not to mention the weight advantage and thermo props.
Thanks
yeah I'm glad were cool too, those heads will work well, just FYI here is what the builder of that 496 said about what the 496 did;
This engine that did not make 670 HP in a 66 SS
> Chevelle 4 speed car ran one "decent" pass out of
> three or four at Sears Point of 10.98 but the MPH
> was 131+
> This was basically at sea level in the evening so
> the air was probably very good.
> This is an original 66 SS 2-door car with 2" headers
> stock suspension, & probably 3.73 or 4.10 gears,,
> not sure here.
> This is an original 66 Chevelle SS probably about
> 36-3700lbs with driver. Never weighed.
> Point is this pretty much verified my dyno numbers
> BTW, this uncorrected dyno just ran a GM 383 crate
> engine which is rated at 425HP & 460 lb ft
> The numbers on my dyno were 434HP & 450 lb ft

I have small block PRO 1s on my engine... GREAT heads... Im flowing 280cfm at 550 lift on the intake and 195cfm on the exhaust at .550 lift.. with an at home port job.. (my buddy has a flow bench) at 28 inches of vacume...
one of the only better heads would be an AFR (but more money)
You can buy these pro 1 heads from summit CNC'd for like $3000 and they are making HUGE numbers..
for $3,000 you can buy a set of AFRs flowing over 400CFM. Also I don't think the casting is as beefy with the Darts, but that shouldn't be a problem for what he is doing.

We have had many 496's with the 310cc Pro 1's make 775HP/680TQ (over 600TQ from 3000-6000 rpm). This is with higher compression (13-14 :1), off the shelf Comp solid roller (.714/.680 lift), but you get the idea - lots of value for the $$$ spent.
P.S. We also had a 565" w/ box stock Dart Pro 1 345's lay down 894HP@7100 rpm. Both motors were N/A on a very accurate dyno.
Also be sure you know what parts are used in the heads - many people buy bare heads and fill them with low buck components.
