I'm going to be arriving in Phoenix on Sunday and will be there for 3 weeks on a work related course. Unfortunately I'm going to be spending a lot of time studying and in the hotel as it's a very in depth course. I'm hoping to get out at least once for a good meal. Any suggestions for a must go to restaurant in the Phoenix area. I'll be staying in the North Mountain Village area so the closer the better. Thanks in advance.

Don't know where North Mountain Village is but "Cork" in Chandler is great...awesome wine list.

It would help to know the major intersections or address where you'll be staying, how far you're willing to travel, how much you want to spend, and what type of food you're looking for.

For steaks, I'd recommend Arrowhead Grill in the northwest valley just off the loop 101 at Union Hills.
There is a really authentic greek restaurant near downtown at 19th Street and Camelback call Greekfest.
There is a long list of mexican restaurants in the area.

If you're in town over the weekends, be sure to check out the car show at the Scottsdale Pavillions on Saturday afternoon / evening. Northeast Valley at the loop 101 and Indian Bend Rd.

If you get really bored and need to wrench on a car, I live in the northwest valley with at least one project in process and help is always welcome.

I'll be staying at the Crowne Plaza hotel on W. Peoria Ave. it's just off the Black Canyon Freeway and is near the Metrocenter Mall. Unfortunately I will be relying on the instructors who are the only one with vehicles or I take a cab. A good steak is always nice. I'm looking for that one place that every time you go to the Phoenix area, it's a must go to place. I'm not a picky eater so any type of food is good.

Near Metrocenter you have every chain restaurant you could possibly want. Your hotel is on the east side of the highway and the mall is on the west. On the east access road running along the highway you have a place called Fajitas just south of your hotel that makes really good fajitas. And there is a Papadeaux's cajun seafood restaurant along the same stretch of road. The other restaurants in the immediate area are on the west side of the freeway and you can get just about anything near the mall. A word of caution about the mall, it isn't in the newest or trendiest part of town. You shouldn't have any issues in the area but the location isn't one of the flashy or more upscale parts of town.

You're also going to be just a couple blocks west of Baer Brakes so if you have time during the day, you could also walk over to their shop.

Feel free to IM me if you have any questions.

Thanks. Looks like a nice place.

Thanks Tom. That's great info. I was looking up the mall and wasn't very impressed. Nice to know so many options nearby for food though. Not sure why they picked that hotel. Must have gotten a good group discount as they need somewhere that has a board room also.

Would definitely recommend 4 Peaks, although it is a bit of hike over in Tempe...

El Encanto in Cave Creek is both fantastic for mexican food and atmosphere.

Papadauex like mentioned above is pretty good seafood and they used to have great happy our food and drink specials. I like the bar there and its close to Metrocenter.

YC's Mongolian Grill in Tempe or Scottsdale is great. Catch the Pavillions cruise on Saturday, YC's is in same lot.

Santisi Brother's is great for wings and bar food and not too far from you.

My wife and I visited Phoenix a few years ago to pick up my '69 Camaro and we tried Binkley's in Cave Creek. They are known for their amuse bouche. We lost count at about the eleventh different treat. I highly recommend.

Local Bistro in Scottsdale is more affordable, but was excellent. I can personally endorse their tuna tar tar, truffle risotto, croque Madame, and wood fired pizza.
