I guy I know gave me an axle housing that looks sort of curious. he tells me it's from a first Gen Trans Am 400 series car. it has built in ladder bars that supposedly bolt up next to the spring purchases. It's way different then the one my firebird came with but the spring perches seem to be in the same spot.
Im actually using a full floating 31 spline 9". However, I'm thinking if he is correct it might be a good swap meet item. Does anyone else know anything about this type of rear axle?

Can you post the axle code, which should be stamped on the front of passenger side axle tube?

The only code I can find after a pre scraping is the one on the front of the passanger side on the housing itself. 9788647. IF there is one on the axle tube then it might have warn off. This thing is kind of weathered. Looks like they might have taken out the rear end in the 70's :).

Does this help?

Sounds like it might be a standard 1967 8.2" Firebird rear. My '67 326 Firebird had a rear that had mounts on both axles for the "radius rods" as GM called the traction bars.

The V8s automatics got one bar on the passenger side and the V8 manuals got 2 bars. See the link for more info.

Sporter nailed it.

There is no such thing as factory ladder bars.
