I want to use c5 z06 rims for my 1971 camaro and from what I understand they require spacers to use before I even spend money on the rims I want to know are they safe to use?

Depends. How much are you spacing? I have a 1.5" spacer on the front if my 82 TA to run C5 wheels- it's been like that for several years and I've done a couple track days and autox. I have a wheel adapter spacer though- it has it's own set of wheel studs. Billetwheeladapter.com I think is where we've gotten some .
If you need to run a spacer that is not like te type I mentioned then that is a little less safe and most cars don't have that long of wheel studs to be able to run a large spacer.

I ran wheel spacers with Corvette wheels on my 68 Camaro for about 2 years long as you get a good billet adapter theywill have there own hard studs there isn't any problems...the bad rap for spacers came in the 80's when they made them out of cast aluminum the cast would crack and the adapter would fall apart

Using spacers with the large "negative offset" wheels (such as Corvette) are probably not as big of an issue as they would be with a more "positive offset" wheel. The Corvette wheel will "probably" keep the tire/wheel centerline somewhere close to the original design. Bad things start to happen when you push the tire/wheel centerline out past the intended design wheel track. This puts a lot of leverage on the wheel bearings and will cause premature failure.
Using the offsets for both the stock and proposed wheels you can calculate the new wheel center to see if it is to far out. I would hesitate to go more then a half inch outboard of this design parameter. An inch would defininetly be to far for comfort.

From what I understand I'll need a 2 inch wheel adapter I've heard great things about billet wheel adapters they are light weight and good pieces I just wanted to see what everyone thought about using them it's good to see others use them and drive their cars hard

You will want a hub centric wheel adaptor, not spacer. 2.5 inches front and back should be right, but always double check.

I've been running 2.5" spacers/adapters with 'vette wheels for 7 years and maybe ~80 auto-x events, some on R-compounds. I keep a close eye on them but they've been fine so far.

got a buddy running 14/32/15 slicks with a 2in billet spacer, custom made from aerospace grade aluminum with 5/8 studs, no issues so far on 700+ hp but he zyglo's them every season and replaces all studs.
He decided to run Vette style wheel u front for the look and uses them and has even had couple of wheelstand crashes and no issues, these are all 2 in, from my research for "working " cars 1.5in is about max, basic driving you can push 3 in as some of the olde GM 4x4 spaces to eve up track widths were around three inches and causes no issues.
Also agree about using hub-centric or at least having them machined to use the aftermarket hub-centric rings. I have info on my other computer about several companies making them and even doing custom ones. But Ill have to swap HDD in my laptop to find them.
I am thinking of using them till I find a wider rearend for my Monza. right now it has stock 2wd S10 rearend and I need a wider one if I go to Vette wheels. Or Spacer/adapters.
