Howdy.

I'm pulling my front subframe and I'd like to know what options there are for rebuilding it to modern pro touring specs. Big tires, Big brakes, Spindles, Coilovers, rack and pinion, etc..

Prefer to keep the budget less than $4K otherwise I would just bite the bullet on a DSE subframe.

Also, any tips and tricks for beefing up the rigidity itself would be appreciated.

Not sure what options you have under 4k that would be fully dressed with suspension and brakes. Speedtech's prices are very competitive for a full subframe but you will still have to find brakes. I haven't price shopped in a while. I have a Scott Mock subframe and I like that it uses stock corvette control arms, uprights etc.

The oem 2nd gen front suspension is not a bad piece at all. People with 1st gen cars spend a lot of money to get them to work as good as the 2nd gen.
The camber curve is good, the bump steer is completely acceptable for street tires, wide range of steering boxes, brakes, oil pans and headers are available...AND, you can get a 275mm front tire on it easily. 295 if you're crafty.
We do tubular arms to help the caster, to incorporate delrin bushings, and to fit coilovers. A larger front swaybar also helps. Welding up the factory spot wedged seams won't hurt anything either...helps stiffen thing up, as will subframe connectors and/or solid subframe bushings...and/or a rollcage.

Thanks guys.
I'll give Scott Mock a call, or maybe beef up my stocker.

What did you end up going with?

You know, I was one that went with every Hotchkis suspension part. Once you get the catalog and maybe a coil over conversion....when all said and done, it really isn't that far off from the ready to go DSE frame. Granted the issues I have had, glad I got one
