View Full Version : Kore3 template?

Im goin to call tomorrow i guess if nobody can help me but

How do i use the template?
I feel like an idiot ive read the directions the template is glued to posterboard.
Now it says cut a hole in it the diamter of the center ring on the hub.
If i do it will sit flat on the hub.Thats not the way i need it to sit so i can install the wheel and check for interference.
It must just be im having a brain fart or something
Can anyone explain it to me???

Also, when you print out the template, make sure it is scaled correctly. I believe the Kore3 templates have a ruled scale to verify the template is printed to scale.

And now the news I didn't really want to hear.
The 14"rotor c6 caliper brake setup from kore3 won't clear my 17x8.5 c5 wheels.:(

All 14" rotors require an 18" wheel in my experience. Time to get a pair of rear 18's for te front???

Sucks tho trying to find used rear c5 wheel cheap...
I bought the set for 300 with tires cause the chrome was messed up
Didnt worry me im going to paint them anyway
Oh well guess the search is on

If i printed the template out correctly which i cant seem to get right on the mark even the 18"c5 whhels wont fit the 14"rotor c6 caliper setup...
I print the template its measures a little under the scale or a little over.Cant seem to get it exact

Make sure that when you print the template you don't select "Fit to Page" or any of the various scaling options. You haven't specified if you're looking at the 14" C6 Z06 kit with 6-piston calipers or the 14" Hybrid kit with 2-piston calipers, but both will have their own fitment issues. The 6-piston C6 Z06 calipers have a large caliper overhang dimension of 1.69", which is the distance the face of the caliper extends past the hat of the rotor (wheel mounting surface), so spacers will most likely be required in order to fit the 18" repro C5 wheels. Given the backspacing on those wheels though, you would need to run a fairly thick spacer/adapter anyway to get the BS back into the range you'd need it to be for a '71 Chevelle. Any thickness you add in the form of a spacer or bolt-on type adapter, you gain in axial caliper clearance and lose in BS.

The hybrid kit is remarkably large in terms of it's radial fitment, so unless you're deep into the inner part of the hoop of an 18" wheel, you could have radial interference issues.

Is there some reason you're only looking at the 14" rotor kits?

I am looking at the 14"hybrid w/2 piston c6 caliper setup.
Everything ive read says bigger rotor better heat dissapation
Car will be driven on the street and also on a road race course sometimes.
Just thought that the hybrid setup would be best without getting into the big $$ of the 6 piston caliper setup which is what id really like.
If yu have a better idea that works as well and might fit the 17" c5 wheel that i currently have im definetly listening.
Ive tried following the conversation on brakes that yourself an ron are doing but im not afraid to admit im lost.
My rear setup will be the LS1 brakes I have the complete setup already.
Thinking i may go manual brakes now, that is what i did get out of that post.Its all in the master,caliper and pads it seems.
I appreciate the help as im almost ready to purchase and many good things have been said about you and your products.

More rotor mass definitely can have its advantages, especially when trying to build a pro-touring car to do everything well, however the 14" 2-piston Hybrid kit maybe isn't your best choice if you're goal is to maintain the ability to upgrade in the future to either the 6-piston C6 Z06 or some other aftermarket equivalent. The Hybrid kit adapter brackets are specific to that 355mm rotor and 2-piston base-level caliper combination and won't work with anything else, making it the only psuedo-Corvette kit that isn't going to be interchangeable since it isn't a factory configuration, but rather a conglomeration of two different factory applications. In your instance, the smaller 325mm C5/C6 kit or 340mm C6 Z51 kits can both be set up to perform very well and might be a better option given your wheel fitment headaches, and would give you standard C5/C6(Z51/Z06) brake upgrade options in the future without the need to buy things twice.

Nothing wrong with going manual so long as you understand the limitations and compromises that come with it. It sounds like you've grasped the most significant concept from the "Ron Sutton uber-thread", which is that you can throw together brake systems a variety of ways, but the common denominator is that what matters most is having all of the components sized correctly relative to one another and suited to the application. There is no perfect caliper size, pedal ratio, MC bore size, pad CoF, etc, but rather it's the relationship between those variables that is important.
