Free CAD program that can save as DXF?

Does anyone know of a, preferably free, CAD program that can save DXF files? My local metal shop has a huge plasma table, but charges a decent amount to design a part. He said he has no problems with me designing parts and sending him the file to cut out. He uses AutoCAD, but that's out of my price range!
