How do you tell how long your subscription is good till?? Someone told me that it is by the address on the front cover. One of them says MAR18. Does that mean it expires in March of 2018??
Just tring to figure these things out, it seems like they always call you with great deals if you renew. thanks

I think that you are correct. I just renewed my PHR and it say AUG07 so that would be perfect for a 2 year subscri[tion

Read your name and on the same line to the right is where it is at ,and if you look on ebay once in awhile for magazine subs you can get 2 and 5 years added for very little. Just a tip.

Not to steal the thread but I got an offer from Hotrod a couple of months back for 2yrs and a free hat for $15. Got the new issues and I can't believe how much better it is these days.

Just so you know, many of these cheap magazine deals are offered to get your name and address and what magazines you subscribe to, then they send you a renewal bill for your subscription and charge more for it than direct from the magazine. As long as you don't mind getting bills from "subscription services" it's a good deal, just watch out. sometimes it's hard to tell they are not bills coming from the magazine.

Yup. In an effort to boost and/or maintain circulation numbers, publishers make deals with every subscription service under the sun. These services don't care if your sub is up for renewal. They just want you to buy a sub. They'll try every gimic possible. And the publishers don't mind this approach because they always fear that subscribers might not renew and circulation numbers will drop.
So the offers that you are getting have nothing to do with your existing subscritpion. Keep tabs on your existing subscription length and source. You will be given many opportunities to renew the actual subscription if you want. In fact, the 2nd or 3rd opportunity may be a better offer than the 1st. The rest is just noise.

Like Charley, I just got a couple of subscriptions off of Ebay. 2 1-year magazine subscriptions for $3.99, how could you go wrong. There some guys on there that only sell mag subscriptions and have 1000's of positive feedback.

I can remeber getting my first offer that looked more like a bill than an offer. I was freak out and called them to see what was up. They told me it was just an offer and to disregard it or send the money and get the offer. They also ask you if you want to be taken off of the list. Don't get removed or you will miss great offers.

The first offer I got on ebay was to carcraft for 5 yrs for $2.99 plus a very small handling charge. I think these people get more money from handling charges direct to their pocket and use it as a way to make more personal income. Either way it is a legit and great way to increase your subscriptions.

Not quite. They get to keep some obscene percentage of the profits--like 90% or 95% in some cases. All the publisher really cares about is counting readers as suscribers. Making money on subscriptions is almost irrelevant. They can then use those circulation numbers as a basis for advertising rates. Either to increase rates based on higher circulation or as a means of bolstering a drop in circulation (more often the case these days). But the low sub rates usually also dilute the quality of readership. At $2.99, folks are willing to just "try it". They'll get a subscription even if they are not true enthusiasts who buy parts. Happens all the time.
So the whole system is kind of upside down. Qualified readership can decrease while ad rates increase. Good for true enthusiast readers, but not good for advertisers. And even small ads can cost the equivalent of a monthly car payment on a Ferrari.

So by all means, buy those cheap subs. But now more than ever, if you contact an advertiser from an ad, it really, really helps if you state where you saw the ad (magazine, website, TV commercial, etc).

Wow Steve it's even better of a deal for them than I figured. How do I sign the wife up to sell for them? I could see it now ,Primedia hits record subscription high and I am a millionaire :seizure:

What way to mess things up!

It's so much fun to hear what you have to say. I always look for your posts to enlighten my day or just to laugh.

Thanks for explaining that so well to everyone and reinforcing the importance of telling the advertiser where you saw the ad. When you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in print advertising, it REALLY helps to know what ad the reader saw when they call to talk to the sales reps.

Have a nice weekend.
