Folks, please, always make sure that your throttle is free and doesn’t stick. Not that we wanted this to be the first post for the Grand National Roadster Show but one of the contenders was approaching the viewing area to be judged when his throttle stuck

The worst part about this is that one of the judges got seriously hurt because of this. I don't know anything about that car but I know I have taken the short cut while building cars in the past and sooner or later it always came back to bite me. Accidents like this are a perfect reminder to take your time and do it right the first time.

Very sad to hear this happened and someone was injured...better hope he good policy liability limits, as this will be a costly accident for the car owner.

Really inexcusable IMO. Whats sad is their are alot of show cars, and trucks, that are flat out un-road worthy to the max. Like pathetically rigged and should only be pushed around and not driven. Sorry for the injured, but whoever owns the wrecked car should be permanently banned from participating in anything automotive related after this. Really pathetic, sorry if im sounding harsh, I have no patience for this type of crap.

I know what you are saying but with that many cars and that many people involved in these shows things happen..
Also, not defending him but I had a brand new throttle cable I purchased one time hang up on me as well, I caught it right away luckily but sometimes you just have to work the bugs out..

The issue with these shows is that they are deadlines for finishing cars, so he didn't have the time to work out the bugs and drive it to test everything..

Look at all of the throttle problems Toyota was having recently which ultimately became a recall, but I heard a lot of accidents were caused from it. and that's probably a multi trillion dollar business with all the technology they could ask for.. While it can be frustrating and I feel bad for the guy that got hit and the guy that owns the car, I don't think banning this guy is going to do any good.

It can also get very hectic when rolling these cars in, they are really rushing you through, last year I showed 5 cars and a bike and they were throwing a fit in the trailer parking section because it took us longer to get all of the cars in,, Of course it's going to take longer, we have 5 cars.. Do the math. lol..

That same year in Chicago, I was watching the guy directing people through, he was yelling and screaming and cussing at people bring cars in, very unprofessional, but it didn't help the situation people were getting all flustered, families with kids were coming through and he was using every word in the book, People are already nervous bringing their cars into the events, add this chaos things start to happen..

Not saying that's the case here, just saying there is a lot going on when building a car and entering a event.. I wouldn't be happy either if I were there but I think he learned his lesson.. That car was probably the guys pride and joy. He has a car to fix again and who knows the legalities he's going to go through over the next few months.. I don't think he will let that happen again.. Hopefully the guy that got hit is ok and has a full recovery.

Vic Cunnyngham, the roadster judging coordinator who was injured in a freak accident during the judging of the roadsters at the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show Wednesday afternoon, is going to be alright. Vic sustained two broken ribs, six staples in his head, and numerous scrapes and minor injuries to his left arm and leg, according to a Tweet from his wife last night. He is expected to be released from a LA-area hospital today according to GNRS promoter John Buck. We can’t tell you how many hundreds, maybe thousands, of people have contacted HOT ROD through social media, at our offices, and in person to express their concerns for Vic and hopes for rapid recovery, which we share.

It looks like even the car knows it was meant to be driven and wanted out.

Damn, that's terrible. Glad to hear the judge is going to be ok, it still sounds like a long road to full recovery.
