Okay so here are what's going into my car
L92/t56 tuned bolt ons 400+hp/tq to the wheels 345 sized tires car will be autocrossed here and their and driven hard occasionally so tire compound will be sticky
Now my plans to rebuild my 10 bolt 30 spline axles good posi unit and a upgraded cover is it worth investing 1k into it to get it all done or should I invest into something else?

8.2 or 8.5 inch ten bolt? If it were me with all that tire I would go straight to a 9 inch Ford.

The 8.5 will hold up just fine. I currently run an 8.5 in my CP 81 Camaro with 28 spline axles and a TruTrac diff. No problems holding up with 400 rwhp and 27 x 14" Hoosier roadrace slicks. I would have the tubes welded to the center section though, I spun the housing on the tube with the first rear, but welded up the second one and no problems since.

always remember that slicks on a drag car is different than most everything else. you will be fine with the 10 bolt.

My stock 28 spline axles with an Eaton posi have held up to slicks and 550 HP , but will get upgraded to 30 splines.

A big thank you to all you guys for the recommendations I'm going with 30 spline axles and I'm going to have the axle tubes welded to the housing and get a nice posi as well

I have my original 8.5 ten bolt of which I have upgraded 30 spline axles,Baer 12 inch rear disc brakes .Moroso " Brute Strength " Center section ,and new Chevrolet 3:42 gears. Of which is in my 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro Pro-touring Car. It has a Supercharged 500 HP plus Small block Chevy, with a Super T-10 four speed. The speedometer has turned over three times since I have installed it. And I have never had a problem. Just do the upgrades ,and do your maintenance. You should n`t have a problem

While your upgrading parts get a support cover, it makes a big difference with the carrier bearings having extra support.

How are you going to get a 345 tire on it? You will have to relocate the spring perches so you have clearence. BTW the 9" will need work as well, they are not bullet proof OEM.

Food for thought....I put a ton of money and work into my 10 bolt. I wish I bought a 12 bolt from Moser for the money. I did the welding, axles upgrades, etc..etc.. want to buy mine???

ive got mine rebuilt a few years ago 30spline mosers 3/16th inch retaining plate..did every upgrade to it except i stuck with 7/16 studs instead of upgrading to 1/2in
it'll handle anything a similar build 12bolt would..but only due to mine being the 71-72 B/O 8.5..3inch axle tube, bolt in axles and other parts are beefy like the 12bolt
if I ever break it..which I doubt I will ever, I'd probably just skip 12bolt with torino ends as its no real upgrade to my current rare except that I could get a Wavetrac Diff..
9in you can build beefier then both but typically just overkill..but full floater is the sole reason i'd go 9
plus its got better diff unit selection too
S-trac and Platnium Track

PS theirs buick guys and im sure olds cutlass guys doing 10s with a stock 71-72 28spline 8.5s other then bearing/seal refresh and axle tubes welded

9" is overkill. The 8.8 is proven to be Almost as tough. Well into the 7's

the most overkill unit would be the S60 with S-trac ..highest gearing option I think is a 3.54 though
