How would you react...You post a wanted ad in the classified, you get a guy contact you and says he is selling a car. I talked with him over the phone and went to his house to check it out. Looks like a good car, the seller calls the shots on the asking price, I say "lets do it".....than be back peddles! Now he unsure....says he will call me later...doesnt

Crappy way for him to test the waters on market value. Ill bet you in about 6 months he will have it for sale again for about 5 grand more then he does now.

Makes you want to take a Louisville Slugger to it and tell him you don't want it anyway, the body is too rough... not really!

A Very Similar thing happened to me about a Year & 1/2 ago. I put up a WTB Ad. I got a few replies and one looked very good. He tells me he has 2 cars & I can have my pick for $26,000. I told him the one I was interested in and he comes back and say $28,000 - WTF. I remind him of the $26k and he says I'm wrong, so I sent him a copy of the original eMail. I should have walked away, but I continued. He was across the Country, so I hired a very reputable Mechanic to check it out & do a PPI for me ( I also told him that the Seller was a having a Problem with the Carbs). Mechanic gets there and calls me - "it's a very good car, I would but it. I also adjusted the Carbs and it runs fantastic". I called the Seller, told him I was ready to proceed and told him to call me back the Next Day (as he was having a Party at his House). The next day comes & goes, another day, I eMail, no response. He finally calls me and says he is not comfortable about selling across country. I told him it was simple, I wire him money, he receives it, I have an Enclosed Transporter pick it up. He tells me he'll talk to his Accountant. Doesn't get back to me. Finally I send him another eMail where I state that for whatever reason he doesn't want to sell the car (Now that it is running better, Sellers remorse, maybe he now thinks it's worth more), but that I hope he would Man-Up and pay me the PPI Fee (the Mechanic left him a Copy). He called me and got all arrogant on mr. He did end up PayPaling the Fee ( Ilost a few buck in fees). I found another car that I was happy with. A few months later the Jerk calls me and says that he is finally willing to sell and wanted $30k - I told him to pound sand!

Should have "Low Balled" the seller or at least offered a little less than he asked.
You scared him by saying yes and taking his price.
Now he thinks he is selling his car short since the first buyer said yes I want your car at your asking price.
Chances are GREAT the seller will back up and not sell you the car. The seller will then advertise the car at an inflated price and not sell the car because the asking price NOW is To F HIGH. The seller will then contact you again about buying the car at the money you agreed to pay. Of course you will have moved on and bought something else at that point. The seller will then ultimately sell the car to another buyer for LESS than you agreed to pay for the car as the seller NOW really does need to sell the car.
Happens ALL THE TIME!
GREED is NOT always GOOD!
