Need the whole motor, ecm and all electronics. used engine only and cheap because i´m gonna rebuild it anyway. My friend lives near new york so 100mails range would be also great...
standalone harness would be big +
no need for trans because i have saginaw 4 speed that i´m gonna use with the motor...

I would go LS or just stick with a traditonal SBC. You would be more pleased with it's performance and reliabilty

well i would also but the ls conversion would cost tre times the money versus the lt chance. I thought that the LT1 would be reliable also and get good mpg? i´m gonna stroke it to 383 and little cam work etc so it puts about 400 horses from the wheels. My friend has LT1 in his corvette and has driven 190thousand mails and its original so i think its quite reliable.

I second the ls or sbc vs the Lt1 the aftermarket for the Lt1 is so small and there's a reason it had such a small life in gms engine line up it wasn't that good the ls swap cost more but imo it's worth It currently doing mine and can't wait for it to be done

The LT1 is a great engine with a bad reputation IMHO. I have had several of them and they were always reliable and ran great. However there isn't much aftermarket support due to their short production life and lack of popularity once the LS engines came out. At this point with 5.3's being so cheap, I would only recommend buying/building an LT1 if you got the engine entirely complete for nearly nothing because you can get good low mile 5.3's complete for nearly nothing. The last 5.3 my buddy who lives down the street from me bought was ~$300 including pretty much everything. I don't think you'll find an LT1 for that anywhere unless someone is just looking to give it away to get it out of their garage.

my buddy lives near new york so i would need the engine near there. The LS engine is something i would consider if i could have the whole package...By cheap 5.3 LS you mean vortec right?

Yes anything 5.3 from a truck 98 or newer is going to be Gen III or IV. Any around 2004-2005 or newer should be Gen IV but you'll need to look at the crank sensor. IIRC, a black sensor is for 24x (Gen III) and a gray sensor is 58x (Gen IV). Also, 2003+ typically has a drive by wire throttle body so make sure you get the pedal and control module from the same truck if you buy a newer engine. The control module is mounted on the drivers side above the wiring harness bulk connector on the firewall. It has two connectors on it. One goes to the pedal and the other goes to the ECM.

I am with the other guys. The lt1 is twenty year old technology. Even the original ls1 is over 15 years old now. The ls1 isn't a bad engine but I am not a fan of the optispark and aftermarket support is weak. My current build is getting an ls13 but future builds will probably get a 5.3 or 6.0. The cost to do the swap would be about the same. They both have to have wiring harnesses, ecm, cooling and fuel system upgrades.

Another vote for LS. I had an LT1 in my car for several years and it was great. It was dependable and I drove it on a couple of power tours. The aftermarket is ALOT bigger for the LS stuff. I wanted to make some tuning changes and I could not find anyone around me locally (in FL) that could help me unless I went a couple of hundred miles away. The costs for swapping are going to be pretty close, everything except the headers (probably a couple of hundred $ more) will be pretty much the same.
