1969 Monark 58 ft Trawler yacht for sale or trade. Don't think I am breaking any forum rules by posting it here for trade as I read the sticky. Harleys get listed here.

Just putting out some feelers to see who might be interested and what they might offer, but some ideas might be muscle cars. hot rods, motorcycles, airplanes. . .basically anything with an engine. Also potentially interested in real estate or rental properties. If you have something to offer don't hesitate to send me a note. Worst case is a "no thanks". She would make a good liveaboard for a single person or a young couple.

She's a 1969 aluminum hull yacht. Just to be clear from the start, she is a running, operating vessel. She is a project though and needs certain things. I will be forthright about what I know, good and bad. Survey placed her value at $70,000 in the current economy, but realistically she MIGHT be worth that if everything was done/finished. The previous owner owed $85,000 to the bank when they repossessed it from him after 6 years of ownership. I don't expect that value in a trade.

What do I think she is worth? Around $35,000.

I will probably be traveling for the next year or two. So I may just winterize and store her if I don't get an offer that appeals.

HULL LENGTH 50' (see my note below) BEAM 16'
DRAFT 4' 0"
GROSS TONNAGE 32 NET TONNAGE 26 TONS
VALUATION
ESTIMATED VALUE $70,000
APPROXIMATE REPLACEMENT VALUE (with new) $780,000

The figures above are a bit misleading, and are from a survey done in 2013. I crawled over every inch of the boat many times, and can tell you that the boat is 60 ft exactly, with a 3 ft swim platform. The platform is not original to the boat, and the length as measured from the factory would have been 57 ft. . .but there are curved exhaust outlets on the transom that project out another 10 inches, and that's why she is measured at 58 overall.

The hull itself is really 52 ft (in my opinion) as measured with plumb lines, with a 5 ft integral bow pulpit, and then the 10 inch exhaust tubes. But since the pulpit is integral, it could be argued where the hull itself begins after the pulpit, and it was easier for insurance purposes to consider her a 50 ft hull than a 52 (or a 58).

Some notes on her layout are appropriate here. She's a big boat. But interior space does not reflect that as much as some other boats this size. Why? Monark built commercial crew boats and work boats up to 80 ft for 50 years before closing their doors not long ago (Their small private boat operation still exists. It split off a number of years back and is called SeaArk today). So this boat, while built as a yacht, was built like their work boats. Full mechanical space under the almost single level cabin, good width catwalks around her, and engines at the stern for access when necessary. So the cabin never takes advantage of the full 16 ft beam, nor the depth of her hull for a big aft cabin stateroom like so many other yachts that put the engines almost amidships but made them impossible to reach to maintain.

So engines are easy access, its easy to walk around all decks (try that on some yachts ), and you can get to anything you need in the mechanical spaces below decks. Plumbing, wiring, tanks, water heater, etc. No taking apart cabinetry to reach things. Its not stand up space down there, but very workable.

So while she did ORIGINALLY have two staterooms (1 now), and two heads (1 now), the interior space is not as big as some yachts even a little smaller.

Where she shines, and I mean REALLY shines is the incredible outdoor space, from the sun lounge on the bow, to the aft cockpit, and then the ENORMOUS upper deck. I have had slip neighbors jealously describe the upper deck as being "dance floor size". These are folks who own the neighboring $250k-$800k boats. Thirty feet long and covered to protect from sun and rain by a CNC designed fiberglass/aluminum cover with a 12 ft retractable section over the built in BBQ with hood. . .she is ideal for entertaining even LARGE parties. I have had 17 people up there, all seated comfortably with no need to squeeze past anyone or anything, food and drinks spread on the tables. Honestly the upper deck is amazing.

If fishing is your thing, take 15-20 of your best friends. Plenty of room. This is the boat everyone else ties up to when large groups of boats congregate for parties or fireworks on the 4th.

Engines: Twin 6-71 Detroit Diesels, rebuilt in either 97 or 98 with 400 plus hrs. New hoses and lines at that time. They do not leak oil like so many DD's, and run beautifully, start immediately

Full galley with 3 burner stove/oven, custom tile counters, full size fridge, double sink and lots of cabinet space.

Good size head with Crown macerating toilet, corian sink, 30x30 shower, stacked washer/dryer and large hanging closet.

Master stateroom in the bow with Full size Captains bed and 6 drawers built in below. Several storage cabinets and further storage below the bed.

Guest stateroom with twin bunks (small)

Salon has L shaped couch that doubles as extra sleeping space.

AC/Heat: 12k BTU reverse cycle in the salon, NEW 24k BTU for the rest of the boat

Why is she a project?

The main item is hull repair. The transom needs welding. Nothing is wrong structurally, no cracks etc. If you tig weld or know someone that does, you can tackle this one yourself. If not then you will need to hire someone to do it. This is the biggie. No games, I will tell you everything I know here. . .but this is why I set the value where I did. If you are seriously interested we'll talk by phone, as it is too difficult to describe here.

She needs the following as well:
marine battery charger (currently using automotive)
Inverter (optional)
Assorted wiring jobs
Assorted plumbing odds and ends
Generator (optional). I am talking about if you want to be out on the water and run ac units, fridge, and anything else on 120v or 240v.
