hello all
I just got my dream car!! 68 Camaro RS……I'm stoked well the engine wasn't matching nor was the trans there was a 350 4bolt main and a TH350 trans….i was going to 383 stroke it and look for a manual transmission but now i got a offer to get a LS1 engine and trans for 1600$. i need to know what should i do get the LS1 or stroke the 350? and what rear should i try to find and put it in there.
thanks

Ls1 or 383... Most will say LS1 , but there's more installation labor involved. Depends on your budget and how much time you have on your hands! Always be careful with junkyard or used engines though, you may be in it for more money than anticipated.
If you're keeping it under 500hp and won't be racing it, you can keep a 10 bolt in it but get a posi. I usually try and get a beefed up rear end in case the plan ever changes- same goes for te transmission.

There's a ton of info on here.. Make use of the search tool, and keep an eye on the builds going on. Most of your questions have already been answered before! :)

thanks for your help Dale,
yes money is an issue …..lol uncle sam doesn't pay me that much (Army) but i did put myself on a budget of 400$ a month for this build so i will just buy what i can when i can. I can do a lot of the work myself but just looking for info as to what i should do. I don't plan on racing it i just want a nice ride i can drive when ever i feel like it. i don't want to put it out every blue moon…lol i built it so i want to drive it ….i will post pics soon

Yeah you can have very similar results with either engine so it's just a personal preference on whether or not you want EFI. We are in northern IL where it gets cold; I haven't looked where you are- but it's nice I have fuel injection and not a carb that needs to be tuned every so often to run perfect, or doesn't get along with today's leaded fuels, and no choke to hook up.
$400 a month isn't bad if you can do a lot yourself.
Look at the build threads, there's so much info on here that you'll benefit from!
