I want to have an AN fitting welded onto the inlet fuel rail & am looking for suggestions. I found these on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/8-AN-6061-T6-Aluminum-Weld-Bung_W0QQitemZ7527428401QQcategoryZ42933QQcmdZView Item

But am a little confused. I thought the numbering system for AN fittings was the numerator in the 16th fractional size. Ex: A -8 AN fitting is 8/16 or 1/2". But this fitting on ebay says it fits a tube size of 1".

??????

I'm confused.

there call out is wrong. Street & Performance welds fittings onto rails. There is an old thread on this site as well. Do a search on LT-1's.

I spoke to Street & Performance & the only thing they told me they had was some kind of rear exit fuel lines that uses crimp sleves on the existing fuel lines that have been trimmed shorter.

I'll do a search & see what I can find.

Thanks,

FYI - Accels sells an adapter to go from the fuel rail to a -6 or -8 fitting size - I have it on my car.

pure choice motorsports have LT1/LT4 fuel line adapter that go to a -6AN fitting.

I did this exact mod (welding an AN fitting to the fuel rail) for John Ulaszek's Firebird. John wrote an article for GM Hi-Tech that included the details of how he did the machining (I only did the welding).

That is the thread I was referring to that I remember seeing pics in.

Mike

edit: it must be in the archives because I can't find it in the search. I know pics were shown of the mod being done.

I am not using any of the factory fuel lines. I removed them from the fuel line, jsut like John Ulaszek did. I have spoke to him a few times & actually bought the Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator from him. I found a -6 weld on AN fitting on Ebay, just waiting on it to get here.

What size do you guys recommend welding onto the feed side, -6 or -8? I was thinking -6 but seems like most are using -8.
THanks,

Scot,
I'd recommend you use 8. No sense in the fitting being your horsepower limit.

Unless you are running -8 all the way from the pump to the motor, -8 will be unnecessary.

Agreed. But a welded fitting is hard to change out, so if you are going this route, put in the 8 now and then if you want you can do the rest later. If you weld in a 6, then you're stuck unless you replace the fuel rail and fitting.

I ran -8 from the tank to the rails, and back. It looks like overkill, but if I ever want a procharged 383 down the road, its ready.
-6 is fine for stock displacment w/ bolt ons

You can also remove the stock inlet piping, and tap them out for 1/2 NPT. I had to use a dremel to round out the inside of the rails; they are flat on the injector side. Then tap the front crossover holes for 1/8 NPT x -6 AN 90 deg elbows for the returns. The elbows fit the stock LT1 cutout perfectly.
I used -8 on the inlets to flow enough for my twin turbo project. You can also have them welded for piece of mind, mine don't leak up to 65 or so psi..

Samckitt did you get the Aeromotive regulator that mounts on the rail? That's what I got and then I got An-6 adapters from Pure Choice that clip onto the existing fuel lines at the back of the motor. Turned out to be very simple with no welding.

Yep that is the regulator that I got. I wanted to get rid of the factory style fuel lines because they were damaged when the car was wrecked. I had a union from Lowe's that crimps on. I got it all taken care of. I have a -8 AN fitting welded on to the imput side, & a -6 AN fitting on the regulator.

Here is what I ended up doing for fuel feed & return lines.

For lazy *******s like me, there are these:

Call Pure Choice and tell them you need the two aluminum fittings on the right.

Again the purechoice parts would not work because the factory lines on the intake were bent & had to be cut off. Those aluminum fittings fit on the factory fuel lines & then go to an AN fitting.
