Hey guys I just sold my 1987 Buick recently and need some help, which car to buy next?! I want to buy the car during the winter to take advantage of lower prices, so sooner would be better. I live near Chicago and have found some stuff on craigslist close enough to me. So here are a few options I have and a brief description.

1) 1963 Thunderbird- its red, great black interior, 390 big block, some bubbling starting in the quarter panel an rust in trunk-unmolested

2) 1979 Camaro- restored with newish silver paint and blue decals, 350 crate motor, manual trans and a posi rearend. Has good black interior

3) 1977 Monte Carlo- New silver paint and has T-tops. Good red leather interior. Has the original 350 but I'd yank it and put a bbc. A 1977 monte carlo was my first classic car that I bought a few years back so It has a special meaning to me

4) 1971 Buick Riviera- black, has black interior, 455 big block automatic. Boat tail riv

5) 1974 AMC javelin- new blue paint with silver stripes. Has stripped interior with roll cage, two racing seats with 5 point harness'. 365 amc engine with a bunch of goodies, has 727 but it needs a transmission pump.

These are my top picks! Any input you guys give me will be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

I love the randomness of the 1971 Buick Riveria.... that's not something you see everyday....

I do like that! They are slick looking cars with that boattail backend. And theres a supply of parts for buick 455's

Camaro.. because of the parts support on those you can make it a corner carver EASILY.. and they are still plentiful and cheap.. plus they look HARD in SF fashion.. yup!

yes yes some of them are cool.. but I wouldnt say "prepare your anus for the impending parts find/custom modification pricing doom" you will surely face..

Riviera, full frame car, just to be different, plenty of go fast parts avail.

I agree with a lot of you about the camaro, just because of the gigantic parts market for them. I daily drive all the classics i've owned, so i'd love to just drive it and throw more parts on as I go and make a good budget pro touring car..the others cars are cool, but there more of a throw a lawn chair in the trunk and go to a show. And thats fine but I am not that kind of guy. I like to drive my cars and have fun. So I think the Camaro fits that the best

Well I went and checked out the Camaro, didn't turn out to be that good, lots of bondo and rust starting places, it was decent but not what i'm looking for. Did find a 1963 wine red oldsmobile cutlass! Make an oldsmobile big block could find its way into that engine bay? I'll go see that soob

Even though I've got a 70 Chevelle....id say the Camaro, had one when I was 15....second generation Camaro's are so easily modified...can very easily make it a 70-73 split bumper or anything in between
Good luck and please let us know what you get and show us too

Even though the one today didn't workout i'll keep looking for more second gen camaros just because I love the looks and they can be made in pt cars so easily

Just a guess, but I bet the boat tail rib could swallow a lot of tire.

To say nothing about a couple bodies in the trunk- something to consider living in Chicago

AMC Javelin or the Riviera.

EVERYBODY builds a Camaro!

Remember the "Cookie Cutter PT Car" thread here on this site?

Read that thread and any thought of ANOTHER Camaro will evaporate quickly!

Can we say "Herd Mentality" when it comes to Camaro's????

Riviera or AMC

I'm leaning more towards the javelin. Its a very good looking car. Decently aerodynamic, has an amc 365 making 400 hp and a 727 trans with a cheetah shifter. Has 5 point harnesses and a roll cage for safety and a new blue and silver paint job. Looks like a great car, i'll be taking a look this weekend
