You can go either route depending on your needs, skills & budget.

Many people these days are swapping in late model tanks, which have all the important internal details already worked out. Multi-port & throttle body factory pumps are the same size & swap out easy, many f-body aftermarket choices. Fuel senders are same 90 ohm as yours.
I'd do a google search see if anyone else has swapped in a later 3rd or preferably 4th gen tank into a 2nd gen.
In the el camino world, many are swapping in late 80's to early 90's b-body wagon plastic tanks, they hold more fuel, weigh less, senders still available at parts stores, & the fit is scarily similar between 2 vastly different models. And no rust, no internal figuring, no welding. Have seen 4th gen Camaro tanks swapped into early el camino's. not sure what & how will fit yours.
You can safely cut & weld on an old tank. Running a car exhaust through the tank for 20 to 30 minutes is a good way to dry it out safely. Several conversion methods can be done.
New stainless tanks are great if you can spend that much.
Just trying to give a few options, no single correct answer here.

You can use aeromotive's new phantom fuel pump assy. It is designed to go into any fuel tank, has a baffle so it will always pump fuel and feed EFI. You can use the 200 for up to 400hp, costs $440 from Summit. This is what I am going to use in my car

I've been searching away and having a hard time finding anyone on here with hands-on experience with the Phantom... Anybody have input on it? It sounds super simple, but I don't see anyone using it? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots? :dunno:

Ive just seen this in hotrod? magazine the otherday
it looks like a cheaper priced version of the camaro pump in the vaporworks tanks
my questions were could this somehow be modded to use walbro side pickups?
and they didnt mention if it still needs their FPR and voltage regulator or if its PWM in some way?

Here's another option if you ever need replacement parts without having to order from a specialty company. Vetteworks setup allows you to use a factory 4th or 5th gen F-body pump, GTO, or Corvette.

I just installed a tanksinc in my 442. I bought the EFI tank but right now it just has the pick up tube as the carb'd engine is still in the car. $450~ gets everything

Only possible issue people might have with this is the supplied 5th gen pump is used..at least that's what description states on the chevelle tank
but also means you can get/hookup the walbro corner pickups and essentially have a cheaper version of the retrofuel and vaporworks tank

IIRC from what the rep said at sema you need an external FPR. And there would be no need for side pickups. they had a display setup that tilted so the 'sump' unit was dry. It continued to show fuel PSI with nothing but the fuel in the sump for a considerable amount of time before it finally ran low and cavitated. I suggest calling aeromotive.

yeah I figured that out a while ago from another post regarding the FPR
I'd imgagine you'd still have to buy and use their electric pump volt controller? or perhaps they have something else to control it via PWM?
thats something I'll have to call about
I'm sure if their were corner pickups it'd benefit as its same style as gen5 fuel modulator..and vaporworx still uses walbro corner pickps

Fuelab also has a similar setup now adays too, but its only for a newer mustang or as a "fabricator" kit
I also think Retro-fuel went under website has been down

I don't see why you'd need a controller for the 340 pump. It's not the a1000.

this was the controller I wa talking about

retrofuel.com is def dead..or atleast merged with professional products/retro tek

Fuelab still hasnt gotten it fully yet..no type of slosh control like 5thgen /maro pump or phantom
