Do you remember the Forgotten Fastback (http://www.cjponyparts.com/forgottenfastback.aspx)? It was one of CJ's project cars from earlier in 2013 that, quite frankly, we'd started to forget about again.
We'd gotten a good start on the Forgotten Fastback. After pulling it out of the salvage yard and completely replacing most of the body panels, Bill installed a SSBC Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit (http://www.cjponyparts.com/ssbc-standard-front-disc-brake-conversion-kit-dual-bowl-v8-power-automatic-transmission-1965-1966/p/A12020-V/) plus a new fuel tank (http://www.cjponyparts.com/fuel-tank-with-drain-plug-premium-1965-1968/p/XFT2/) and some of the suspension. However, then it got parked in CJ's showroom as new projects came along and we began to prepare for the new 2015 Mustang. The Forgotten Fastback was even for sale for a short time while it was sitting.
Then, Bill and some other members of the CJ's team spent a few days at SEMA (http://blog.cjponyparts.com/2013/11/cj-pony-parts-at-sema-2013/) and came back with an idea. You see, for us, 2015 commemorates not one, but two important milestones. Not only will we be celebrating the 50th year of the Mustang, but CJ Pony Parts (http://www.cjponyparts.com/) is turning 30 years old in 2015 as well. We couldn't think of a better way to mark these important dates in the Mustang's history and CJ's company history by finishing off the Forgotten Fastback and turning it into a 2014 SEMA show car.
We call it Project 50/30.

Our goal is pretty simple. We want to display the car at SEMA in the fall of 2014, and we're striving for an invitation to the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (http://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/experience/optima-invitational/). This means that Project 50/30 not only has to look amazing, but it also has to perform. With the plans we have underway, we are pretty positive that both looks and performance are going to be perfect on our 1965 Mustang fastback.
We're getting started under the hood. The Project 50/30 Mustang is going to be powered by one of the best Mustang engines ever made--the Coyote 5.0 V8. Our Coyote crate engine from Ford Racing (http://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-racing-crate-engine-5-0-412hp-mustang/p/M6007M50/) makes 412 horsepower straight out of the crate, but when we're done, we fully expect to see a whole lot more.
Many other products are headed into Project 50/30. The project team is working hard to iron out these details and get the parts ordered, but we already know that these products are going to be supplied from many of the different vendors that CJ Pony Parts works with. Project 50/30 is definitely going to be receiving parts from Ridetech Air Suspensions (http://www.cjponyparts.com/ridetech-mustang-air-suspension/c/8_1001_239/), TMI Products (http://www.cjponyparts.com/tmi/c/8_1001_133/), Classic Instruments (http://www.cjponyparts.com/classic-instruments-mustang-gauges/c/8_1001_234/), Rod & Custom Motorsports (http://www.cjponyparts.com/rod-and-custom-motorsports/c/8_1001_212/), plus countless others that will be confirmed as the build progresses.

Just like the building of the CJ Pony Parts company, and even the design of the Mustang, our Project 50/30 Mustang is going to be a team effort. Bill's taking the lead on the project and he's backed up by Josh from Product Development, who has a great deal of restoration experience himself. However, we've received such an interest from across the company that dozens of CJ Pony Parts employees from the warehouse, sales, customer care, and marketing, plus our president and vice presidents are each going to be lending a hand in order to get this special project car done in time for next year's SEMA.
You can keep up with Project 50/30's progress, too!
