Gaining hp through filtering generally means sacrificing protection. What is the application?

In dyno & track testing, we find three versions of the K&N filters build the most power, while protecting the engine better than any other filter. Clean air is key long ring life.

The version we used on multi-stack injected engines that worked best have filter surface on top, so airflow can go straight through & into the individual air horns. Like these (http://www.knfilters.com/racing/crbnfiber.htm).

We achieved similar power gains on carburetors with the X-Stream air flow filter top (http://www.knfilters.com/universal/x-stream.htm) ... providing the top of the filter is not up against a hood.

For our race cars with a hood, and the filter top anywhere close to the hood, the absolute best performing filter is the Flow Control Filters (http://www.knfilters.com/racing/flowcontrol.htm). The base & the top are shaped to smoothly change the direction of the airflow from the inlet surface area on the sides ... 90° ... into the throat of the carburetor. Utilize the 4" or 4.5" tall version if you have room.

The only concern for some of you with the Flow Control air cleaners in a PT car is the plastic top may not be as sexy as you want. I think putting another top over the flow control top would do the trick, or building a custom top out of aluminum or carbon fiber.

We also used the flow control filters with the filter in the airflow, like in this Modified.
