My buddy claims the F1 video is sped up in this... any thoughts? I choose to believe it is not, lol.

Using a simple stop watch the cars on the left take about 4.5 - 5.0 seconds, where the F1 cars take only 2.5 - 3.0 seconds.
Not sure I believe they are really going almost twice as fast?
Is it even the same track? Corner looks the same but the background sure isn't.

At first I was thinking one camera was just further up on the straight than the other (see the red line, vs no red line). But now that you mention it the background is obvious, how did I miss that. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe some stands were erected for something as large as an F1 event vs. some class of GT racing... but the tree line looks very dissimilar. Good eye nick.

Upon a third inspection, I think that the GT camera may be significantly further up the straight, and angles slightly left, which shows the point of the housing looking structure and the tree line much closer. I think the F1 is further back and angle to the right more. Clocking the passing through each section would mean the F1s are going even faster than a 1 to 1 time comparison... maybe...?

It is obviously the Eau Rouge turn at the site of the Belgian Grand Prix there is no other place like it in the world. Youre right however it was shot at completely different times by the differences in the background but check the red and white curbing, exactly the same. Its the same place. I think youre right also the F1 camera is set significantly further back from the corner than the GT camera making the F1 cars even more impressive. Its hard to get direct comparisons between an F1 car and a GT car but at Ferrari's Fiorano test track a 2004 F1 car with Schumacher at the wheel turned a best time of 55.9 sec. Take a guess on the best lap time for a Ferrari Enzo at one time considered the closest thing to a road going F1 car.....1min22sec. That is in "destroyed it" territory. Ive been to a half dozen F1 races I think the vid is legit.

Back in 2006 I was racing at the Walter Mitty Challenge at Road Atlanta. They had the "Vintage" F1 cars running in their own class. Saturday an Amateur driver in his retired Michael Schumacher F1 Car set the All Time Road Atlanta track lap record by several seconds. Sunday morning the same driver came back and bettered that lap with a better All Time track lap record.
Lot's of cars with lot's of famous Professional driver's and factory sponsored cars have raced at Road Atlanta over the last 40 years. Too think that an Amateur driver in a retired F1 Car still set the lap record at Road Atlanta is pretty amazing.
Yes the F1 cars are VERY FAST!

Hey all, after looking at the video…numerous times, I can tell you it is legit. I work for FOX…as in I shoot NASCAR races and edit racing video. I have been involved in motorsports for nearly 20 years. The F1 footage IS NOT SPED UP, they truly are that fast.
