So, i have replaced the posi unit in my GM 8.5" axel. I am trying to figure out if this pattern is ok. If not, what changes should I do? The backlash is set to 0.008" per Richmonds spec.

It is a little off center to the toe side. I would add .008" shim to the pinion to move the pattern closer to the center and mark it again. If it was a high horsepower drag car it would be ok as the flex would center the pattern but for a street car you want to get it a little closer to the center of the ring gear.
Hope this helps!
Mark.

I know when I did mine, a lot of trial and error. I kept adding and taking away until I got it close as possible to the reference pictures. Its very important that you setting up as if it was for real (Minus crush washers, and press fit in shims) and rotating it with some load by the axle to get your marking.

I dunno if we'd really be able to see something as organized as people getting a food stamp debit card from their local church though..

Thanks for all input. I think it is good enough, it is not simple first time you are doing it. Next time it will go much faster.

You are showing the coast side in the above picture but if the drive side is close to the same pattern you will be ok. Remember when you hit it hard the pinion will try and push away from the ring bringing the pattern closer to the toe.
