‘Tis the season to help others, which is exactly what Hotchkis Sport Suspension did this past weekend at the 10th Annual Motor4Toys Charity Car Show and H-Team Cruise. Though the 2013 event season has come to an end, Hotchkis had one last gathering this past Sunday. Hotchkis H-Team members attended the Motor4Toys Charity Car show, which is held every year in Woodland Hills, California. Now for those that live in the Southern California region and have never been to the Motor4Toys event, I highly recommend going. This year was Super Car Sunday’s tenth year hosting the Motor4Toys Charity Car Show and the turnout was by far the best yet. The event brought in over 4,000 cars from Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsche Carrera GT’s to late model muscle cars, hot rods, off road Jeeps and of course tons of pro-touring cars and trucks. The goal of beating last year’s donation of 40,000 toys was surpassed by noon as several cars and trucks rolled in carrying trunk loads of toys. Seeing the boxes lined with toys lifted spirits and it truly felt like the holiday season had arrived.
John Hotchkis, founder and President of Hotchkis Sports Suspension, teamed up with Motor4Toys in 2010 by adding a fun twist to the event. H-Team members were invited to join Hotchkis at the Motor4Toys event and then continue on a cruise up Malibu Canyon through some of the most adventurous roads in all of California. In addition to attending the car show and cruise, each H-Team member was asked to donate at least one toy to Motor4Toys to help children in need during the holiday season.

This year’s event brought out over a couple dozen H-Team Members along with a few additional guests. We arrived at the Motor4Toys event as the sun started to rise in order to claim dedicated parking spots for Hotchkis vehicles. After collecting the group’s toy donations, we set off for a 60 mile cruise on the infamous Mulholland Highway through Malibu Canyon.

If you have never driven these roads, I suggest doing it. If you don’t live in California, I suggest you visit just to drive these roads. Not only is the landscape amazingly beautiful, but the windy roads are some of the best in the country. You’ll find everything from cyclist to runners, motorcycles and various types of cars cruising these roads on any given weekend. Now I’ve participated in pro-touring events across the country that included cruising through mountains and across states, but not much compared to our trip on Sunday. Driving through the hills of Malibu Canyon offered endless routes of twists and turns that never got boring. The Hotchkis trip was planned by Kahn Media’s Jon Barrett, who started our cruise from Woodland Hills and ended at the Stonefire Grill in Thousand Oaks. We stopped along Mulholland Highway for a group photo and took a minute to embrace the crystal clear view. Then we set off again down the windy road while each H-Team member trailed closely behind the next through the canyon. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.
In a way, the Hotchkis H-Team Cruise was the perfect ending to the 2013 season. It wasn’t our usual race event where we went home happy, but exhausted. It was a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend a day among fellow gearheads. In true spirit of the event, it helped bring everyone back to reality of what the holidays really meant; a time for giving and helping others. Thank you Hotchkis for inviting us on an amazing day and we hope to see more people out at next year’s event.
