I find some of their builds a little on the "rough" side but did enjoy this episode with the T|A. Really liked the Ride Tech kit on 17" homey combs and the OD trans. Should be a pretty slick car when it's done as long as they go "all in" on a power plant now that the stocker tried to eat itself. A LS will not likely happen due to the time constraints, so I hope that they put some money into the original mill so it's actually fun to rally?

After watching the entire crew stand there and flatten a cam on that GT350, blame it on oil after seeing all the metal in it , they kinda lost all credibility with me. Then someone must of read the book on cam break in on the next one.

Im pretty sure they said they put in an additive that still didnt do the job. But yea... surely ONE of them must have known. Even I knew that and I've never had to break in a motor before. Its like they've never seen any of the shows on Power Block. LOL
As far as this motor is concerned, the preview for next week make it appear that they rebuild the original motor but it still doesnt work out. So NOW what?

That they were gushing about how easy it was to bolt on the new suspension is a great testament to the product's producer and their quality parts.

Someone should tell them about that wonderful invention called the roller cam. It would have saved them money on the GT build.

I like that show for now. I just hope they don't start building cars with all free parts because that makes me sick and then I change the channel. The fact that a manufacturer is on here starting a thread for them shows how commercialized the show is already. ..Nothing against Ridetech.

I don't watch the show much, but did see the TA episode tonight. Couple thoughts tho.... WHY in the world did they want to leave the stocker engine for a road ralley?!?!! That would have been the first thing I woulda changed! Plunk in a LS7 or 9 and trans pullout and be on your merry way! Screw the paint, it looked pretty good before, heck the spoiler looked like an orange after the paint job anyway.
And really, who buys a stock old ford f100 longbed truck for that much money?!? I mean seriously!!??!

My buddies 77 T/A he had in high school had an Olds 403 in it. And that was all stock.
I know, of all the project cars they put an LS in it should have been this one. And I have learned along time ago, you don't thrash on a car you are intent on selling.

That's what I was thinking too. Its by far cheaper to just to go with a retro roller cam than to build an engine twice. I think part of their problem is they have a bunch of morons working on the cars and they try to do the job the cheapest way possible. When I saw the mustang's engine fail, the hired labor was shocked to see metal in the oil?? Aaron had to set them straight....you're going to see a little shimmer on a new engine. Than I was shock to see they pulled the mushroom'd lifter from the top! Good way to mess up the lifter bore!
The classic one was when the guy said "we used name brand oil with an additive"....Since when is "O'reilly auto parts oil" name brand?

It's a fun show - wouldn't want them to build me a car - they come off like dumbasses - and from a business stand point they waste a lot of money - 1 guy working and 5 guys watching???
After they keep wiping the motor, you'd think they'd have the guy break it in on the dyno before he brings it over.

I really enjoy the show for entertainment. The reality is they are trying to appeal to a very wide audience and filling the show with to much car/build info is great for us who love cars but not as appealing to the greater audience. Agree that Tom should get an award for his B.T Justice and over all the guys keep it light and funny. If it get to serious then I can just go to work for more stress and real world problems so it is a great escape and still has some cools cars so I'm all in.
Now for the next three days let's see who can use "som bitch" the most times in our regular lives.

I hope you don't mean Tom - that Dude is Hilarious! I think Jordan knows more than he shows & the Directors may be dumbing it down. The guy that looks like an Amish Troll doesn't seem to know anything and more like a helper. The tall Troll is supposed to know wiring. I like the show better than some other ones with shouting and stress drama.
These guys are cool, the cars are cool, although not to the degree of show cars, which is alright, I'm just disappointed on some missing headliners, raw metal, etc, but then i remember the F40 Ferrari...
The 57 Chevy build was a $70k joke IMO. So give and take...
The Bandit build was good, the dream sequences were som-bitch funny, although it seemed that engine was a low-budget mi$take. How about roller rockers? FI setup, etc? something...

What was the api oil rating
all the newer ratings have a heavy calcium concentration package which works against zddp
if they did a lil homework all they would of really needed was Z-paste for cam break-in, and use break in oil from job gibbs br30 after breakin switch to joe gibbs hr2/hr4 or amsoil z-rod oil
ZDDP is a awesome additive but makes no sense to add to oil with Calcium detergent(sn-GF-5) though older api oils have more then enough calcium even down to SJ
which means every off thr shelf oil has too much calcium unless you find a non detergent oil in your local wal-mart.
Its just stupid proof if you use oil made for our car versus rolling the dice on using a calcium detergent based oil, even adding zddp isnt sure proof

Pretty amazing since there is no real "Villiage Idiot" in this successful show!

I felt better after watching them have fresh engines go bad as everytime I had a motor built it had to be pulled out and re-done or brought to another builder. the lesson I learned , no one around can build a motor correct and buy a crate motor.
Im surprised that with all the money Richard is dumping into his businesses that they do not have a in shop machine shop to build motors and their own interior shop because that dragon lady charges way too much and does not seem to know how to do headliners.
The t/A is nice ,makes me miss mine, but it was built for the show like the nomad, they are both give away cars.

Yep... seems like these guys are always in a hurry, I guess the show would not have as much drama without the stupid deadlines. If you ran a real shop with crazy deadlines like that and did not spread some extra money around your good techs would eventually leave. Every engine I have built to go in one of my cars or the race cars I used to crew on had the machine work done by a good machine shop. I measured every part and used plastigage to double check and verify clearances on rods and mains. Camshaft centerline gets checked. Distributor is installed before the valve cover goes on so I can verify the correct rotor phasing. I use assembly lube (lubriplate) on most parts, prime the oil pump with grease before attaching it, use the cam manufacturers' assembly lube on the cam, lifters, pushrods, and pre-lube the engine before firing. Engine gets an initial 20+ minutes run in @ 3000. When I ran a shop we bought crate engines when it was appropriate or needed to be a quick turn, otherwise the machine shop assembled the short block or long block. I always pre-oiled the engines. We used to use old cut down distributors or other tricks. I still have my hex drive for pre-oiling my Mopars. These days you can buy the nice pressurized canisters. I've never flattened a cam, but I have seen it happen. Usually when someone starts an engine and lets it idle. 25 years ago mechanics had to know how to build engines, do they just not do that any more? If I was doing high end stuff for customers these days I would have the machine shop / builder break it in on the dyno, set the lash, do some pulls and ship it with a dyno sheet and a mpeg video.
