Hey Guys,

I'm starting on my '66 Mustang Fastback build. The other day, I ran across a smokin' deal on a Roush Yates NASCAR engine... I couldn't pass it up!!

Now, I'm looking for any information I can get on installing the dry sump system. Any experience, photos or input would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently building my own dry sump system, nice score on that engine! I'd assume that it has an oil pan already and lines. If so then all you really need is a tank and a new belt. Dry sumps are the best possible oiling system and actually add HP because of the extra vacuum inside the block (allows the pieces to move around thru the air easier).

Yes, the pan is on the engine but the only lines are what's comming off the pump in the photo. I'll get a tank with it but he said it's the tank they run in the NASCAR's so it won't fit in the my car.

Any photos of your build?

Your going to have to find out who's pump your running. The lobe rotor scavenge sections will pull the most vacuum. You'll need to change the pulley ratio's for the desired RPM and for what pump sections you have. I run a Dailey pump with Peterson accessories, tank, filters, vacuum regulator, blow off, etc... Bill Dailey is extremely helpful and can setup your pulley ratios for you, as well as advise plumbing.

So far I only have my oil pan made up but no fittings on it yet. I also have a 6 stage Auto Verdi pump that I will soon begin working on the mount for. You can google dry sump systems and there are a lot of good images to show the layout. For the gears a general rule of thumb is that you have the pump run at half speed of the crank however a street car may want it to spin faster because you are not turning high rpm. The pressure stage of the pump should have an adjuster on it so you can tune in your oil pressure
