Ok, one of my friends has a salvaged 2008 Escalade that is running and basically complete that I can pick up for a decent price.... Obviously, the 6.2 LS is the first thing that came to my mind... What about the rest of it? Like the tranny is I believe a 4L80E in those, but a quick search on google says that the awd version will need a different tailhousing and most importantly output shaft to use in a RWD application - changing that requires tearing the trans down completely (the tranny is practically new as well as the dealer had just replaced it under warranty just a few months prior to the issues which forced to salvage the truck) .... Is that more or less true? Or is there an easier alternative?
what about going all out and trying to adapt the awd? I have 1970 Chevelle coming in from US next month which I wanted to make into a mild cruiser.... Taking the whole drivetrain from the escalade sounds like a great idea, right? Or will I run into driver side floor pan clearance issues (and I'm not talking being afraid of cutting up the floor, that's a given, I'm more concerned with having enough room for pedals and what not)? Are there any builds like that out there? Shorter front driveshafts, right? Thinking TBSS parts bin
What else? The brakes and abs system? Or too much wiring and electrical hassle?
or just take the engine and part the rest out for cash?
so, in other words - What would you do in this case if you were me? (Complete, running 2008 escalade awd with the 6.2 for 10k)
list of cars where I can use the parts
- 1970 Chevelle (currently has a mild 454/m21/12bolt)
- 1969 c-10 step side shop truck/rat-rod (350/3speed manual)
- 1979 Malibu (late model injected 454 swapped in/4L60E)
also have a t56 from a CTS-V that we yanked from the Malibu as the previous owner messed up that install to the point of the car being undrivable.
