I trying to install a Wilwood rear disc brake kit (with emergency brake build in) on a 69 Camaro. The Camaro has a 12-bolt rear end, Global West leaf springs, and QA1 shocks. The QA1 shocks have the resevoir at the bottom (making them fat at the bottom) and mounts on the rear of the axle on the driver's.

The calipers also mount on the rear of the axle since the emergency brake cable comes out the front. The shock and caliper are hitting on the driver's side.

Anyone else have the combination?

All I can think of, is the rotor the entire assemble a 180 degrees on the driver's side. This would move the caliper to the front and the e-brake to the rear. I have the lokar cables, so I have ton of cable.

I don't know why I did not think of this before but..during the many years I used to work in Brakes, Alignment and Suspension I can remember that many of the Premium Brand Shock companies claimed that there shocks could be run both right side up and up side down. The only issue you may run into are the mounts...not sure what they are on your first gen but changing them (the mounts) may be easier than you think. I used to do it all the time. I would rather see you do this than what we discussed on the phone. Call your shock supplier and find out if you can run the shocks either way.

This will not work with QA1's (Bolt through one end and threaded on the other). It would also probably interfer with the wider tires if flipped.

I figured out a way to make it work. I did have the move the caliper to the front, but I did not move the e-brake. It is still located correctly.

Sweet!! I am glad this worked out for you. I will remember this next time someone brings up the QA1 shocks.....Huh kind of strange that no one else here seems to have run into this.

Philip_L,

Did you install the Dynalite Pro Series? Did the install of this kit change the offset of the wheel ( in/outwards )?

Is it possible you post or send me some pics of your solution?

Thanks.

Just saw this post. Phillip, the rear brakes on my previous '69 (SSBC rears) had the driver's rear caliper on the front, and the passenger rear caliper was on the rear of the wheel.

I learned the hard way too, I had it all assembled with both of them in the same direction at first. Then I read the directions! HAHA

Cliff,

Yea, I installed the Dynalites on the rear. The directions for Precision Brake do not say anything about it. I flipped the bracket(move the thread inserts to the other side and used some of the mounting holes on the front. You have to get a little creative with the e-brake mounting bolt.

The Lokar cable kit worked great.

It is just the way they work on first gens. Since I have aftermarket spring plates I was able to redrill the hole closer inboard to allow the Caliper to mount in the rear of the drivers side.

I have the same set up QA1 makes a 1" shock extension in there circle track section. Your bottom mount is removed and this gets installed between your shock and original mount. They are hard to come by. You will probably have to get it from there vendors since they are back ordered.
