Getting close to ordering a rear end and rims-tires for my 69 Firebird project. I am working with a stock sub frame, Wilwood 6-piston brakes, Ridetech stage 2 with coil overs, muscle bars, and Tru Turn. The rear has already been mini-tubed and the upper cradle welded in. I am wondering what rim dimensions are needed to get a 275mm to work up front and what is needed to get a 335ish in back. Since I will be ordering a S60 from Strange, I could have it narrowed a little if I want, but not looking for a super deep dish in the rear whee (should I stick with a stock width rear?). I am strongly considering Vintage Wheel Works V40's and Dunlop Direzza ZII tires. Not sure if I will use 17/18" wheels.

I have a 69 Camaro with TruTurn, musclebar and strong arm set up from Ridetech. I'm going with a 18x9.5" wide Rushforth Livewires with 5.6" BS and a 265 Dunlop Direzza Zii tire on the front. I considered 275's but Jason from Rushforth suggested the 265's for my application. Give him a call as he has a lot of experience with different set ups on f-body's for both your front and rear applications.

My wheels are on order so give me a few more weeks and I will tell you if they fit. 18x12 rears with 54.5 mounting surface to mounting surface rear axle with a 335/30/18 tire. 18x9 5.25 backspace with a 265 from tire.

If I remember right you are running a narrowed rear end? I ordered 275 and 315 Toyos today. I had to go with 315's in the rear because the V40's I want to use are only available up to 11" wide. The 275-315 difference will probably be better for the track anyway. I also got a Percys Wheel Rite tool....we'll see if it works.

I can't help with the front size but I would stick with 18's since 17's are fading away. Also are you aware that the R 888 are NOT legal for GG, ASCS, and USCA ?

Ya...I went with 18's. I won't be entering any sanctioned events yet, I need to work on my driving skills! Track Attack and instruction at track days is a start. Right now I track my Boss 302, but hope to have my Firebird moving by next fall.

I got my Toyo R888s already! I have a Percy's Wheel rite tool. Any tips on measuring for proper back spacing on the front and rear? I will be using that info to order a rear end at the proper width too.

Everything fits great. I ended up with 255's as the 265's were unavailable. I just completed the USCA event at TMS and had no issues. The Ridetech team checked out the setup and there's plenty of room for a 275 up front.

My V40 rims in18x9.5 with 6" back space for the front should be here this week. I hope to get the Toyo R888 275's mounted up soon. There is a lot of debate on if and how this set up works!

Please post some picks and feedback once you get the wheels and tires on the car.

Joe,
Did you get your wheels and tires mounted on your car? If so, how did they fit?

I would suggest a 275/35-18 on a 9.5X18 wheel as it will look much better than a 265/35-18. The 265 is short at about 25.0" in diameter as the 275 is 25.7" OD. The 265 will look more like a rubber band on the wheel, which I do feel doesn't looks too appealing on a muscle car. Just my 2-cents :)
Good Luck and post some pics!

103572103573103574103575103576103577103578Sorry... I lost track of the thread. I have a build thread going that shows a lot of pictures https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/102040-1969-Firebird-TA-clone-track-car-build
I think going with the 6" BS was a good move. All of my suspension clears the rims. I will have to alter the inner fender and fender lip a little. If I remember right, the tire barely rubs the sub at full left lock on the drivers side.

Remove the stock fender bolts and replace them with button head allen head bolts. It will save your tires from snagging the bolt heads.

It looks like you will hit the fender at full turn once the suspension is compressed? Or is that just the angle of the picture??

Yes, some fender massaging is in the future.
