So my 1979 Trans Am came with a dual exhaust system that had the mufflers pretty much on the ground. I had a shop do some cutting and they are much better now but I still worry about catching a speed bump and having a disaster.
So I am looking at the Pypes system for my car with a transverse muffler for ground clearence.
My question is, will having a transverse muffler kill power?
Car has a Pontiac 400 and dynos around 300RWHP and 380 RWTQ
Thanks in advance for opinions!

A transverse muffler will not affect your power at all if sized properly. Lots of guys make gobs of power with transverse mufflers.

Ok cool, that's what I wanted to hear! I just want to be able to drive with as few worries as possible! Thanks!

I'm running a Pypes Race Pro transverse muffler. No power loss for a 455 with headers. No drone. It's not too loud. But I did run resonators after the X-pipe.

I would like the car to be quieter than it is now so I will try it and modify as needed!

I've heard nothing but horror stories when installing the pypes system. I would love to have the ground clearance it has.
Check out nastyz28 and transamcountry forums. There are good and bad reviews...when I say bad...not the quality of the product, poor fitment. Some of the poor fitment issues may come from people with modified rear suspension/tires. I do not live too far from pypes in PA...I may call and ask if they install systems. I'd hate to buy it, remove my present system, only to discover it won't fit and I need to have "crush bent" pipes made to complete the install.
Good luck!
