Is everyone else seeing all these ad's? Very annoying!!! Also what's with all the posts disappearing?? I read a thread but I get lost because someone answers back to someone but you don't see the question or statement?? Just wondering if it's me or???

Wow! I see that too. Slows my already aging computer down even further. If they don't fix this, then I'll just quit coming over here

I am all for small business and profit. Please sell as much as you can here and earn all you can make.....I am good with it ALL up until it affects my user experience. You are getting close to that point

Yep, it just got pretty bad. Like a forum that I am not a member of or logged into. Fortunately I ignore them, I just hope it doesnt make browsing clunky.

yea there are guys who specifically pay to be advertisers on the site that don't get as much "in your face" as the drop in ads. too much for me. ad the site does seem really slow!

We just need a little time to see what works, what doesn't and what is acceptable. I just now received the first 24 hour report and will go over it.

The site does slow down as the membership goes up. We already have a big move in the works. A new server with room to grow in a more central location is currently being looked into.

I agree. The ads and the long time sponsor are overshadowed by the ad campaign.

Yeah, charge us more, lose the pop up ads.
Don't give your time and services away... No one else here does. This is a great site and your ad rates are quite reasonable. Keep the site great and the ad rates a smidge less than "quite reasonable"

I find myself not reading threads that I normally would because I hate seeing the ads inserted into them. I then find myself visiting the site less.

Please make them go away!

I see them too.. obviously they made some changes with our cookies.. so they can see what we search the most...I know they have to make money, but this is alot of adverts in a small space.. Lateral-g will become more and more popular if this keeps up

It's only been just over 24 hours. We need a little time to work this out. I am working on some changes and can't do anything until the guy that helps me with the server returns. He works nights and is probably still asleep.

i just was in my private messages box and ads popped up, makes me think someone is watching, thats the one thing i hate about the internet the most,,,,, are the ads trying to sell you stuff you have no interest in and you cant close them out ! like right now as i am typing this there is an ad above that says "view private message" its all about cookies and getting your ip address and sending your email with junk ads, the internet is a great thing without all of this !

man , just charge us a little more and dump these google ads, we will all be much better off !!

Heard that...I think everyone is just making sure you're hearing them :):)

Always good to try new stuff...there's never any progress unless you do. And if every new thing you tried worked out...well, you'd be the first. Good luck with the updates.

sites don't pay for themselves and you gotta do what you gotta do but do we really need Toyota ads? Maybe seeing ads that appeal to the forum feel might make it easy for everyone to digest.

I see other sites that put ads at the last post as opposed to mid thread or in a members post. I'd hate to have people think im peddeling purple penis pills. Seems to go over much better. Keep up the hard work Larry.

I understand its a way too make money.
I have only recently found this site and am currently in the process of pissing my wife off on here daily looking at most of the pages while waiting on my doctors to get their crap together on what to do with me. I clicked on one ad , it said find your muscle car here and i thought it was an actual link too something cool, NOT! I won't do that again.

I understand the need to generate revenue but I think these ads are intrusive and annoying. I won't click on them.

We are working on it and will probably make changes tomorrow. Just so everyone knows, this isn't to make more money. I don't do this for the money. It's a hobby and not my day job. Some day it might be but for now it's not and I'm just trying to make it a better site. Aside from hiring someone to help with event coverage there should be other cool things we can do but, the path may be a little bumpy along the way. We will work it out and find a balance here soon. It's been less than 48 hours and there may be changes as soon as tomorrow.

I've seen all the talk about ads over the last few days and I haven't been seeing them. I usually use Firefox for all my web browsing so I just logged in with IE. I see all the ads with IE but not FF. Definitely annoying ads.

It's not enough for me to want to quit logging in, this is my favorite forum and I know Larry only runs this site as a hobby. I know it costs money to keep this site up, and honestly Larry, if you're not making at least some income from this site, I think you should be. So I'm not at all against you trying knew things and figuring out what's worth doing.

We don't have paid memberships on this site do we? I don't know how much revenue that would generate, but I'd gladly pay a yearly fee if it meant less ads and would help contribute to keeping this site up and improving.

the adds on the side are fine, ive actually sourced parts via those adds because i like to support people that support us. i do not like to support google sponsor adds, same reason i deleted facebook. Im glad you're taking our responses into consideration with the new layout.

I think the ads are fine as long as they're not in the middle of the posts (they get quite annoying). Insert them between posts is ok with me. How about having the ads disappear when a member logs in, similar to some other sites?

I clicked on that thinking it was a new update but found the same thing you did.
the one that says I have low disc space makes me laugh and I know that can't be , I have about 850 GB out of 1TB left, lol.

The problem is the AD choices ads. I am getting them using Firefox. If I wanted to look a new chevys I would read Hot Rod Mag.

As a sponsor for the site and a small business owner, I feel that my hard earned money is wasted when I see competitor ads all over the place when I'm reading threads, posting, etc. I know the ads are most likely targeted, but what will my potential customers see that may draw them to another business? I hope this isn't going to be the new look for PT.com.

I've been spending less and less time on this site as a result of this crap.
Plus, the (back arrow) Previous page button doesn't work on the site any more.
I give up....

We are working hard to strike a balance between the ads and site experience. We are also trying to find the issue with needing to hit the back button twice to make it work. We have made some changes to the ads but we need to let them run for a full week before we make any more changes.

If there truly are competing ads please let me know what you see and I will try to block them. I know the ads are like any other site you visit with them and each persons experiences different ads. I for one am seeing almost nothing but ads for web hosting companies and servers since that's what I have been doing a lot of research on as of recent.

One thing I do know is that change is difficult and there is no way to make everyone happy. I will do what I can to balance things out and to provide a fun place to hang out with lots of event coverage for next year.

Did you have more than just one choice on ways to make more money from the site? Either way, why wouldnt you discuss the options with your members and more importantly your current sponsors? I see both sides already making statements, and none seem to be pleased. Matter of fact, the majority is pointing to paid memberships to get rid of the ads. I have ran a large site and forum(way back) and understand your goal. I also see sites as artwork, surely you are not and will not be happy with the way this site looks with all the ads. Like another stated, it feels like the site is hosted free because of all the ads.

Larry, I used to come here all the time, I stopped for well over 12 months and found myself frequenting other sites. I recently started to come back here a bit. These ads have me questioning it.

Forums are great, they cost more time than money to support, and this community wouldn't exist if not for your hard work and time.

Buts ads are for no other purpose than money. I note you said earlier it wasn't about money. If that was true, simply turn them off. There's enough "voice of the people" already to say that they are annoying people, so if it's not for money then turn them off.

If money is required to support the site (they definitely are not free to run), there are so many other options that can be offered to give people an ad free experience but still drive revenue to cover costs.

As a low post contributor to this site, i apologise if I've over stepped bounds by this post, but wanted to share my thoughts.

I will check in every now and then but meanwhile I'll continue to spend time on other sites.

I'm surprised people actually boycott the site because of the ads.. Sure, they're annoying.. But it could be worse- popups! That'd be the only thing to stop me from coming to a favorite website.
Learn to look past them, keep focused on the actual post.. At least for now! Larry says they're an experiment.

But yes I think a yearly membership fee would be acceptable to rid the ads for users who can't stand the ads.

other forum boards ive been on offer a supporting membership option. if you want you can pay for a year membership and their are no adds. if you dont want to pay then the site gets paid by the adds. that seems like a perfect solution.
