I have c-notched, boxed, and z'ed my '85 C10 frame. The time is coming soon where I will need to flatten out all of my welds. I will be using an electric grinder and I'd like to know what discs/wheels everyone has had the most success with? These are much heavier welds than what I'm used to grinding on bodywork! Also, what brands do you have the best luck with? I've noticed my 3M cut-off wheels last about 3 times longer than Forneys do.

As a fabricator our rule of thumb is use a hard discount to get the weld nice and close to being flat...then swap it out for a sanding/grinding disc. Pferd makes them...kinda pricey hence why we always use a hard discount and then finish with a sanding disc. Also don't forget to add a fish plate to the frame if your grinding the weld flat. If you don't want to see it on the outside of the frame then grind the inside if the frame and put it there...inside the cross channel shape

I have been using flap and grinding disc's from LeHigh Abrasives for a couple of years now... Have VERY good longevity from their flap discs and you cannot beat the price... Only place I buy from now.

I'll check out LeHigh, Forney did not impress me and it's what we stock at our shop. Of course, most people aren't doing the level of work I am either, more farmers that will lose it before they wear it out.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is a hard discount? Is that the solid wheel? Google didn't help me :(

LOL that's not ignorance...that' auto correct from my phone...yes hard disc...solid grinding wheel, cut off disc's I like Dewalt...cheap and decent life from them Walter makes nice disc's too but they're a Lil pricey from what I recall, I just ran out to the garage here are the four different brands of flap wheels that I've got experience with, if you can't zoom in and read them they are
